Job Description

Summary

Our Marketing Department has an opening for a Business Development Analyst who will be responsible for supporting the marketing/business development (BD) director and managers for one or more practice groups, workig closely with other members of the department and partners to achieve practice-wide BD goals, developing detailed client and market research and analysis, including researching industry trends, assessing competitive intelligence and performing specific client analysis to assist partners and practice groups in their client development and retention efforts. This position can be based in any of our main offices with office travel as needed.

Job Description:

Strategy and Opportunity Development

Develop and manage visibility opportunities of individual attorneys, practice groups and the firm, including events, conferences, sponsorships, seminars, webcasts, and other promotional activities.

Identify social media opportunities and new products for development; assist with implementation.

Identify opportunities for the public relations program.

Pitches and Proposals

Partner with attorneys to develop pitches and proposals for new business that involves at least one practice group and assist with their presentation preparation.

Develop and maintain pitch/proposal templates, formats and materials.

Complete post mortems on lost pitches and analyze results.

Manage and track client development and retention activities.

Content Management

Oversee development and management of collateral materials, including the relevant sections of the firm's website and intranet.

Create and maintain updates to practice and industry group client lists.

Gather and maintain additions to experience lists including drafting experience summaries for pitch materials and the firm website.

Develop sponsorship opportunities and manage sponsorship budgets.

Supervise data entry of pre and post-pitch activities to CRM database.

Market Research

Develop client and market research and analysis.

Identify and manage research in support of new business opportunities, market opportunities and conduct market segmentation analyses.

Analyze the firm's client base and recommend specific courses of action to expand opportunities with existing clients.

Department Management


Develop customer reports to support PG goals and sales metrics that will help improve the efficiency of the PG business development efforts.

Manage the assigned practice groups' marketing budgets.

Develop and maintain meaningful metrics that focus behavior and improve the efficiency of the BD function, the partners' business development efforts and demonstrate the value of the firm's BD program.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

Demonstrated writing ability (legal and technical topics) and excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills and ability to work effectively in a team.

Demonstrated ability to lead development of proposals and RFP responses.

Understanding of technology industries (software, mobile, life sciences, cleantech, etc.) and the legal services of the specific practice groups assigned.

Intermediate proficiency with MS Office products and CRM technology required.

Highly organized and has good problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple complex tasks simultaneously and under pressure with tight deadlines (a sense of humor helps, too).

Self-motivated, takes initiative and is able to work independently with little guidance.

Reporting to the Senior Business Development Manager, the ideal candidate will have 4+ years of professional services, business development preferred; law firm experience is a plus. The ideal candidate will also have strong client service ethic and proven record of working directly with senior partners and executives on business development planning, execution and reporting. College degree required, emphasis in Marketing, Business Administration or similar field preferred; MBA, JD, or other relevant advanced degree a plus.
