The Enterprise Information, Integration & Analytics unit (EIIA) at the University of Washington (UW) provides consistent and reliable architectures, guidelines, standards, tools, and services for analysis, design, integration, management, and delivery of institutional data. In addition, the EIIA group manages, develops and maintains institutional data resources, including the UW Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and UW Enterprise Web Services (EWS), to provide information for decision-making through central business intelligence (BI) products and tools.

EIIA is currently seeking a Business and Data Analyst to perform the design of information in the EDW, the EWS, the enterprise integration platform (EIP), and the BI platform. The analyst’s responsibilities include gathering and documenting requirements, developing conceptual data models, producing data linkage specifications, and prototyping data structure and analytics to meet various business requirements.

The business and data analyst is a data management professional experienced in business and data analysis, data profiling, data integration and design, information delivery and customer experience delivery. The position requires depth of knowledge and skills in enterprise data management methods, relational and dimensional data modeling, source-to-target mapping, and data modeling tools. The incumbent will possess the full range of knowledge and experience in data warehouse development life-cycle and its processes. The incumbent should be familiar with agile project management method and be able to effectively perform needed role in the agile process.

To be successful, the analyst will need to exhibit excellent qualities in attention to detail, analytical acumen, facilitating and communication, collaboration with stakeholders and partners, and competing priority management. The analyst needs to have top communication skills at inter-personal level, and in presentation to large group.

The emphasis and focus of this position is on the “global view” of UW institutional data, the supporting data architecture and blue-prints for this big-picture view, and the task to translate big-picture view into detailed implementation. The position is cross-cutting, requiring coordination and liaison to internal team roles as well as external groups to ensure broad data integration and business value for UW.

The analyst is expected to collaborate easily and effectively with other data managment and design team members, in particular Information Architects & Data Modelers, other Business Data Analysts (BAs) and members of the data integration teams. This position will also be outward facing to UW campus administrative and academic units for the assessment of critical information needs and for the promotion of standards and best practices in data design and modeling.


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Library Sciences or equivalent
  • Minimum of four yearexperience in Information Management, Data Warehousing and/or Business Intelligence.
  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis and requirements gathering.
  • Proficient using SQL for data profiling and data analysis.
  • Superb technical writing and communication skills.
  • Outstanding collaboration skills with colleagues at all levels and across different organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Experience facilitating meetings, constructively addressing input and criticism, and resolving conflicts.
  • Effectively presents complex technical material to non-technical audiences in an approachable way.
  • Able to understand and communicate business relevance to management / leadership teams.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and guide others
  • Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities.

  • Strong experience in data modeling and data design, incl. relational and dimensional.
  • Strong experience with data management / data integration design and implementations.
  • Experience conducting quality assurance and/or user acceptance testing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and work experience with enterprise-wide relational databases, scriptinglanguages, XML, SQL Server, BI reporting tools.
  • Experience in process and project management in a large volume data environment.
  • Knowledge of multiple business subject areas, i.e. Finance and Student, etc.
  • Experience in a major research university setting.
  • Experience in an Agile software development environment.
