Position Title:  Business Analytics Specialist          


Position Summary


An excellent ground-floor opportunity is available for a business analytics specialist in the Houston, Texas office to join the growing analytics team at Crown Castle. This is a position for an individual that has the technical competency of an IT developer but is formally located in a business team. The business analytics specialist is responsible for delivering innovative, data-driven insights to a cross-functional audience of business stakeholders. They will liaise with IT, developing data preparation workflows that improve the agility of the business to ask and answer questions. They will champion self-service analytics, using modern data visualization software to quickly discover and communicate insights. They will collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to develop the reporting infrastructure needed for predictive analytics projects.


Essential Job Functions


  • Dives deep into databases, acquiring and wrangling data that is pertinent to the business question at hand
  • Communicates frequently with business and IT, helping all parties to arrive at a common point of truth
  • Uses Tableau to explore data and dashboard stories to management audience
  • Designs automated workflows to minimize manual/ad-hoc steps in recurring analysis
  • Investigates new tools and proposes solutions to further the efficient operation of the analytics team
  • Develops domain expertise across multiple lines of the business to support enterprise-scale analytics




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, CIS, Mathematics/Statistics or related discipline
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in business analytics, mathematics, computer science, or related quantitative discipline preferred


Experience/Minimum Requirements


  • Five (5) years previous experiencerequired in a related field
  • Experience with programming and statistics (e.g. R, Python, SQL)
  • Experience developing data preparation workflows
  • Research and data analysis experiencerequired


Other Skills/Abilities


  • Software competencies beyond standard MS Office (e.g. Tableau & Alteryx)
  • Passionate learner with the versatility to attack new datasets
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to identify and investigate anomalous data
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to present analytical insights to non-technical users
