Duties & Responsibilities:

Contribution/Net Profit

  • Meets or exceeds the profit goals for the yard
  • Maximizes opportunities for improving net profit and develops ways to correct negative trends
  • Pro-active about solving negative variances

Sales

  • Maintains key relationships with customers
  • Analyzes customers for maximum profit performance
  • Negotiates customers’ pricing and communicates with new customers
  • Develops new customers and follows up on sales leads
  • Assists credit with overdue accounts receivables
  • Sets pricing & determines appropriate pricing parameters for yard
  • Provides job quotes

Customer Service

  • Responsible for post-delivery customer audit program to improve business processes
  • Responsible for overall customer satisfaction and order accuracy programs
  • Resolves customer complaints about stocking quantities and product quality

Inventory

  • Negotiates with vendors; orders board & materials within general company purchasing guidelines
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels in the yard; controls shrinkage
  • Processes POs and receiving papers accurately and on time
  • Overall responsibility for inter-office procedures
  • Maintains accurate inventory records
  • Oversees monthly cycle counting procedure

Sales Orders

  • Responsible for accurate input and confirmation of sales orders, customer information and related reports which support sales order entry process
  • Approves all credit memos and return authorizations

Dispatch

  • Ensures that yard’s staffing and equipment will meet delivery needs
  • Schedules trucks and team members appropriately
  • Establishes and maintains the overall operational and delivery strategies
  • Overall responsibility for managing variable expenses within budgeted targets

Equipment

  • Maintain proper maintenance and equipment protection program
  • Understand and plan for equipment depreciation
  • Ensures equipment is maintained to company operating standards

Human Resources

  • Conducts monthly meetings (1. Safety, 2. Product Knowledge, 3. General Operational Meetings)
  • Primary responsibility for the selection of workers and managing employee turnover
  • Maintains performance logs and conducts performance reviews
  • Coaches, counsels and takes disciplinary action if appropriate
  • Oversees orientation and training of new hires
  • Resolves employee relations problems
  • Investigates all accidents and injuries thoroughly

Yard Safety

  • Overall responsibility for yard safety, cleanliness and injury/accident prevention
  • Responsible for overseeing and enforcing safety programs and procedures

Administration

  • Responsible for accurate, timely new hire paperwork
  • Prepares yard’s annual budget and operating objectives
  • Responsible for yard security
  • Responsible for approving month-end closure procedure
  • Responsible for daily bank deposit
  • Purchases yard supplies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-pace, ever changing environment and make quick decisions
  • Excellent team building, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a profit-making operation by setting and meeting goals
  • Knowledge of distribution business
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
