The Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) department is a new department in the Space Defense Division (SDD) supporting the Air Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Space Defense Task Force (SDTF). Aerospace is the FFRDC lead for BMC2 capabilities studies, systems engineering, requirements, architectures, and acquisition. The delivered capabilities will be essential early enablers to conducting timely, integrated, Air Force operations in the contested space environment.  The BMC2 Acquisitions Engineer will be Aerospace’s focal point for leading Requirements and Acquisition work to develop agile acquisition plans and processes, to ensure acquisition objectives are met and that the development and acquisition is well coordinated across key mission partners, including SMC, AFSPC, SSDP, AFRCO, and AFRL.  

  • Directly support the SDTF as a member of the AF/FFRDC/SETA team
  • Actively support the development of acquisition plans, requirements, agile acquisition processes, test strategies, and transition to operations for BMC2
  • Identify contributions that Aerospace can make to the BMC2 effort, coordinate the integration of those efforts into the SDTF plan, and execute delivery through individual and team contributions
  • Coordinate and lead Aerospace matrix support for the execution of tasks
  • Ensure close coordination across multiple Aerospace and Air Force organizations responsible for the BMC2 enterprise
  • Moderate Travelrequired

This position can be filled at a grade 2 or grade 3




  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8/12years of experience in space or ground, or software system acquisition or systems engineering
  • Experience in the overall software engineering, acquisition, development, and/or deployment of a satellite ground systems
  • Experience with identifying risks in the acquisition process
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify technical and programmatic risks, strategically plan for their mitigation, and lead teams to successful resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work adaptively in multiple tasks in a small, diverse team, in a fast paced environment
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and interact effectively with the Air Force, SETAs, other FFRDCs, and contractor personnel
  • Proven ability to manage relations and expectations with external organizations and stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build consensus among multi-disciplinary teams within Integrated Product Teams and Working Groups
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and build effective relationships and teams with government customers, other FFRDCs, UARCs, SETA contractors, and Aerospace personnel
  • Current Top Secret SCI Clearance with SSBI


  • Knowledge of process for operational and tactical military operations in the land, air, or sea domains that can be applied to the space domain
  • Experience in government acquisition of software-intensive systems in the space or operational domains
  • Experience in processes for agile acquisition and agile software development
  • Knowledge of all phases of system acquisition development, from requirements definition through implementation, testing, operations acceptance, and initial operations capability
  • Excellent understanding of government organizations
  • Experience in working rapid acquisition authorities
  • Experience in working with SMC, AFRL, AFRCO, AFSPC
  • Experience with C2 systems and Satellite operations
  • SMC program office experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly dynamic environment
