If you?re looking for interesting work in a niche industry, if you are interested in learning something every day and want to grow personally and professionally, and if you?re looking for a dynamic environment in a growing company, then this could be the right opportunity for you. As a Project Manager, you?ll be responsible for the profit/loss, quality, schedule and customer satisfaction of each project assigned to you, but it?s also much more than that. Project Managers are in a key position here, as great PMs? keep the operation running smoothly. Many dynamics go into the work we do, such as the people you work with, scope of work increases, changing priorities and more, and it will be your job to manage that process. This is not a cookie cutter, predictable job; every day is different, and full of challenges. The core competencies required for success in this position include the mental capacity to innovate in ways that change problems into solutions, provide leadership that drives performance, and clearly communicate and stage your directives, plans and concepts. If you are the type of go-getter who treats every challenge as an opportunity for you to shine, then we want to hear from you!

Bay Ship & Yacht Co. (BSY) is a modern shipyard located in Alameda, CA on the waterfront of San Francisco Bay. We provide dry-docking and repair services to commercial and government vessels, including tugboats, ferries, Coast Guard cutters, cruise ships, pilot boats, yachts, and marine vessels of all kinds. Our diverse workforce of more than 300 employees includes skilled welders, painters, machinists, pipefitters, electricians, dockmen, and fabricators. Bay Ship & Yacht Co. (BSY) was founded in 1977 by Bill Elliott with primary focus on the construction and repair of wooden ships. Bill traveled the country with his crew, instilling in them a deep respect for the sea and a passion for achieving the level of quality that ocean travel demands.

That passion endured as the company made the transition to repairing, conversion and the building of commercial and military vessels and superyachts, and today anchors our mission to always deliver absolute customer satisfaction through exceptional quality, service and on-time delivery to meet, and often exceed, customer expectations. Bay Ship & Yacht's commitment to quality construction and repair is widely recognized throughout the commercial vessel community. That reputation is well-known to a growing circle of experienced superyacht owners who have made Bay Ship & Yacht their company of choice, and to a group of buyers who recognize that the Bay Ship & Yacht experience has set the standard for others to follow.

Project Manager Role Overview and Responsibilities

You?ll join a team of Project Managers as an individual contributor, but with a strong team dynamic. Estimating and Sales bring in the jobs, and the Senior Operations Manager assigns them to the Project Managers. The PM will plan and staff projects assigned, working with managers who oversee the groups from which the PM will draw resources. The PM?s goal is to coordinate everything around the project, including setting milestones to meet deadlines, and will ultimately be responsible for the project completion on time and within budget. While the PM has authority to make demands upon, direct, delegate to and utilize all available resources as required, he/she will need to keep in mind that the most important goal is that all projects in the yard are completed on time. For this reason, BSY has a strong team dynamic, with all Project Managers working together to meet the big picture needs, calling on each other?s strengths and resources, and ensuring the overall success of the organization. Projects can be small or large, simple or complex, and the experience and skill you bring with you will determine the type of projects assigned to you. However, your aptitude, ability to learn, and desire to take advantage of opportunities will inform the type of projects you manage in the future.

The job entails both administrative and field work. Communicating with the project team and confirming timelines are being met is a key component of this role. The PM is the primary liaison to the customer and will meet with them regularly for inspections and project status reports. Inquiries from customers may come at all times of the day or week. A successful PM can balance this expectation easily. In general, you?ll work business hours during the week, but it?s not uncommon to need to work a longer day here and there, or to work on a weekend when needed to take care of one of your projects.
