Job Description:  The Remote Sensing (RS) Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team in Colorado has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer with experience in Department of Defense (DoD) space-based remote sensing systems. Candidate will be required to support program requirements in Aurora and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Candidate will provide SE&I requirements development and management support to the OPIR and Environmental Monitoring Enterprise programs in support of the Space and Missile Systems Center Remote Sensing Directorate (SMC/RS).  Candidate will support effective documentation and management of the functional, allocated, and product baselines which include mission processing system and communications network interfaces for OPIR space and ground systems, site room and rack drawings, engineering processes and procedures, requirements documents, deficiency reports, enhancement change requests, COTS and GOTS baseline configurations, and operational baseline change process control.  Candidate should have experience with, system acquisition, systems engineering lifecycle, and architecture development for space and ground systems (especially at SMC).  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Providing architecture and interface control documentation support for current and future ground and mobile systems in operations and under sustainment.
  • Leading interface trade studies in collaboration with development, operations, and sustainment stakeholders to evaluate and optimize ground interfaces in support of current and future operational requirements.
  • Evaluating existing architecture and interface products for suitability and producing new architecture and interface products that meet program acquisition, operations, and sustainment requirements.   
  • Analyzing and managing proposed changes to existing architectural and interface control documentation under configuration control by SMC/RS. 
  • Managing interdependencies, identify disconnects between current/future architectures and interfaces, identify and conduct key system trades to resolve current system interface issues
  • Analyzing new acquisition programs and projects and make recommendations regarding ways to manage and optimize interfaces and interface documentation with existing systems under sustainment. 
  • Analyzing new and existing acquisition programs to Identify and manage procurement and production of architectural products needed to support cybersecurity and system protection assessments with existing systems and future systems under sustainment.
  • Managing risks for multiple programs as well as developing risk mitigation courses of action.
  • Providing expert analysis to assess impacts of ongoing and future changes involving SMC/RSL systems under sustainment and their interfaces with external systems.
  • Developing acquisition-related briefings, plans, papers, and other documentation in support of SMC/RS decision making.
  • Collaborating with prime contractors, other support contractors, government civilians, and members of the U.S. Air Force.
  • Developing DoDAF products to support operations and sustainment program milestones and documentation requirements.

Required Experience, Skills and Attributes

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering (technical), Computer Science, Math, Physics, or commensurate experience.  
  • 5+ Years of experience with analyzing and managing complex systemarchitectures.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental architecture development and management processes.
  • Highly motivated individual who is a self-starter and works well in a team environment.
  • Acquisition, engineering or operational experience with remote sensing systems or Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition environment, with OPIR space and/or ground systems (especially at SMC).
  • Experience in developing space and ground system architecture products.
  • Experience working on architecturetrade-studies.
  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to enable working, interfacing, and interrelating with diverse personnel and dynamic teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding of architecture development tools and tool capabilities
  • Experience and knowledge of ISP, DoDAF, and program of record technical baseline requirement impact trades.
  • Ability to travel periodically between Aurora and Colorado Springs, CO.

Desired Requirements

  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Experience with requirements, risk management, analysis & simulation.
  • Experience in DoD Space acquisition and operations is desirable.

Security Clearance

  • Active TS/SCI required (Candidates without active clearance will not be considered)
