Description

Verily, an Alphabet company, lives at the intersection of technology, data science and healthcare. Our mission is to make the world's health data useful so that people enjoy longer and healthier lives. We are developing tools and devices to collect, organize and activate health data, and creating interventions to prevent and manage disease.

In Boulder, we're helping to develop a Clinical Studies Platform which will allow Verily and its partners to conduct population-level research and analyze the results with best-in-class tools. We want to help statisticians and researchers delve deeply into large clinical data sets and to facilitate machine learning training over these data sets to develop unexpected insights. Project Baseline is one of the primary targets of our engineering efforts, but we plan to produce systems that are broadly applicable to the field of clinical study, both inside and outside of Verily.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build data processing systems to curate, transform, and refine raw clinical data into useful and intuitive output datasets.
  • Develop APIs and output formats that meet the needs of bio-statisticians, clinical researchers, and analysis experts while maintaining all relevant contractual or regulatory obligations (e.g. HIPAA compliance)
  • Collaborate with consumers of curated data in order to iterate towards a system that makes these consumers happier and more productive

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in software engineering.
  • 3+ years experience with Java or a similar general-purpose object-oriented programming language.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with Java development.
  • Interest or experience with data processing platforms like MapReduce, BigQuery, or Google Cloud offerings.
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
