To securely build and maintain AWSinfrastructure using automation and cloud-native services such as AMIs, CloudFormation templates, EC2, EBS, S3, EFS, ELB, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Lambda, VPC, RDS, DMS, etc., following all applicable DISA STIGs and SRGs. Answer and resolve support tickets for researchers running Windows, Linux, and supporting applications in the cloud.

Responsibilities include building highly resilient, secure, compliant, automated, cost-effective cloud computing environments on AWS and monitoring them. This position is customer-focused and will work closely with researchers for requirements gathering and providing cloud environments for research projects. This position will also work closely with key members of the development team to resolve AWS related issues.

Deploying, managing, and operating scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems on AWS, using systems engineering, network engineering, multi-region and multi-account design strategies to deliver well-architected cloud solutions for compliance needs, with boundary protection, data protection, and operational security management.

Utilizing AWS EC2 service for provisioning, monitoring, scaling and distribution of compute infrastructure.

Setting up Virtual Private Cloud resources, subnets, network access control lists, and security groups.

Gather and document client requirements and provide design and architectural recommendations for implementation, deployment, and provisioning projects on AWS.

Migrating existing on-premises research environments to AWS.

Implementing and controlling the flow of research data to and from AWS.

Identifying and establishing appropriate use of AWS operational best practices.

Selecting the appropriate AWS service based on compute, data, or security requirements.

Build and maintain automation scripts using AWS CloudFormation or similar for infrastructure administration and operations.

Monitor configuration changes; create and maintain tools and scripts to manage deployments and configurations.

Continually evaluate and identify tools, frameworks and technologies to support and improve the overall solution delivery.

Perform OS updates, software deployment, script creation, and backups, as necessary.

Assist clients in the maintenance and administration of their AWS services.

Monitor the health, utilization of AWS resources and recommend reserved or spot instances based on use case or research workloads.

Manage vendor relationships and SLAs.

Other duties as assigned.

U.S. Citizenship required as position must manage and guard access to research project related Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and security information as it pertains to various federal agencies and sub-agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of information technologyexperience.

Additional Minimum Requirements

Strong written and verbal communication skills with professional experience of automation and cloud-native services.

Advanced knowledge of the AWS automation and technologies, including but not limited to AMIs, CloudFormation templates, EC2, EBS, S3, EFS, ELB, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Lambda, VPC, RDS, DMS, etc.

Experience in managing cloud security and building High Performance Computing environments in the cloud.

Intermediate knowledge of wired and wireless networking protocols, equipment and functionality.

Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, SNMP, and HTTPS protocols; AWS Certified Sys Ops Administrator (preferred).

Minimum 3 years of enterprise experience in performing system administrator duties (provisioning, operating and managing) using AWS, VM and/or Linux (Red hat) environments.

Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience on-boarding activities for the AWS cloud environment and supporting migration efforts of applications and services into AWS.

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.

Experienced with Windows, Linux and OS X.
