AVP – Data, Analytics, and Cloud Architect at Zurich Insurance in Schaumburg, IL

Zurich is currently looking for AVP – Data, Analytics, and Cloud Architect to work out of our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.

As an AVP – Data, Analytics, and Cloud Architect, you will lead the design and implementation of our next generation of best in class data, analytics, and cloud-based solutions by leveraging hands-on experience and expertise in architecting, designing, and building enterprise solutions. You’ll understand the technical opportunities and limitations of the various technologies at your disposal and will be able to specify recommended solutions.

She/he will display past performance and experience with evaluating technology standards, tools, products, and solutions, make rational design decisions from business and technical perspectives, and communicate and implement recommended solutions. The AVP – Data, Analytics, and Cloud Architect will also maintain responsibility for defining the technical strategy of a system, working closely with all stakeholders to drive technology decisions that support product capabilities now and for the future, and guide it successfully through its execution.

Key Responsibilities of the AVP – Data, Analytics, and Cloud Architect to include:

• Manage the data storage strategy and common patterns of data ingestion pipelines
• Hands-on experience of designing/building cloud-based data lake
• In-depth understanding of big data components (data warehouse, data lake and data transformation)
• Set up technical directions and roadmaps for the D&A program – including data ecosystem, analytic tooling, and operations supports
• Partner with D&A leads, understand their needs on the ecosystem, and translate the needs to technical requirements
• Drive POC projects to build out new capabilities by evaluating/enhancing data/analytical landscape
• Document common patterns used in delivering D/A projects
• Good knowledge of PaaS and SaaS offerings in Azure/AWS
• Hands-on experience on storage, Kubernetes, VM services in Azure/AWS

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area OR
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Information Technology area AND
• IT Strategy

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience and knowledge with analytical tools (Python, R/RStudio, Machine learning frameworks).
• 6+ years of architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of highly distributed applications
• 5+ years of knowledge and experience using various types of data storage and data management technologies on distributed systems such as NoSQL, Relational and Object Oriented databases, and Spark and Hadoop.
• 5+ years of experience across Cloud and infrastructure components (i.e. server, storage, network, data, and applications) to deliver end to end Cloud Infrastructure architectures and designs (Storage, computation, and DevOps).
• Working knowledge in several areas of Data and Cloud Architectures on Azure or AWS PaaS/ IaaS/Data Warehouse, deployment, Dev Sec Ops etc.
• Deep knowledge of Cloud based Big Data and Analytics solution in a variety of industries and computing environments
• Working knowledge with AGILE development, SCRUM and Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) with the following programming languages: .NET, C++, Java, JSON, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, Pig/Hive
• Insurance-related experience desired but not required
• Strong communication skills both verbally and written
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
