UCONN Health and the University of Connecticut Medical School is seeking a BC/BE Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery as a full-time, academic faculty member. While the primary focus of this position is general thoracic surgery, having the training and ability to place a patient on cardiopulmonary bypass in an emergency situation (rare) and occasionally assist cardiac surgery colleagues in complex surgeries, would be essential.
The General Thoracic Surgery service will be a “start-up” program but will have the full support of the senior leadership at UCONN Health including that of the Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the Chair of the Department of Surgery.
Responsibilities will include all facets of pre operative, intra operative and post operative care of the thoracic surgical patient. A strong emphasis will be placed on innovative thoracic surgery (benign and malignant) with heavy use of Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery and/or robotic surgery. Additionally, a close collaboration with our interventional pulmonology service, active participation in our multidisciplinary tumor board and a consistent presence in our Cancer Center will be essential.
The UCONN Health campus consists of a new, state-of-the-art 250-bed hospital tower, a large, separate Graduate School for basic biomedical science, and the University of Connecticut Medical School. Also on campus is the Jackson Laboratories for Genomic Medicine, one of the largest and most influential genomics research facilities in the world. Ample research opportunities are available.
