ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL: This position provides legal consultation and advice to TriHealth, its subsidiaries and affiliates. The Associate General Counsel supports the Office of General Counsel and the legal department to ensure sound legal, strategic advice, consultation, analysis or interpretation in assigned substantive areas is provided in a timely and efficient manner. Negotiates, reviews, and drafts contracts and other transactional documents to meet organizational business imperatives in a variety of corporate and operational areas. Conducts research, provides written/oral guidance and training to staff, management, and other stakeholders. Maintains current knowledge of existing and proposed state and federal law in assigned substantive areas.
Job duties include, researching various legal issues, drafting, editing and negotiating a variety of agreements (including but not limited to provider/clinical service agreements, information technology, clinical research, pharmacy, managed care, real estate and vendor/purchasing agreements, physician compensation/employment agreements, real estate leases), leading system initiatives, overseeing regulatory compliance as well as other projects related to the provision of clinical care and operation of a multi-facility health network. Additionally, this role will be may assist in handling medical staff matters, Graduate Medical Education/ACGME, immigration, education law, responding to inquiries and requests for information fromfederal/state governmental agencies, accrediting organizations, and regulatory auditors, preparing templates, forms, workflows,instructional materials, and other tools and resources to promote legal department efficiency. Collaborate with Purchasing, Communications, HR, Compliance, Audit, Accreditation/Safety, Privacy, Information Security, and Risk Management departments to investigate, resolve concerns, and provide day-to-day legal support for an integrated healthcare system. The Associate General Counsel will actively participate in department initiatives, including but not limited to compliance on-call coverage, managing outside counsel, improvement of processes activities and the legal team’s achievement of annual goals.
Successful candidates will be familiar with hospital operations and have comprehensive knowledge of federal/state fraud and abuse laws, HIPAA, privacy and data sharing regulations, as well as general knowledge of HCQIA, employment law, and various other healthcare regulations related to the delivery of patient care.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Doctorate Degree Law Juris Doctor from ABA accredited law school required and admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 4 years of relevant health care legal experience in public or private law firm setting or demonstrated experience governing hospital/health care operations in-house advising a complex health care services organization or system, or academic medical center. Must possess highly effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to workindirectly, collaboratively and effectively with other TriHealth team members including senior leadership. Able to manage assignments independently with minimal direct supervision.
• Collaborates with the legal team to provide regular staff education through client conferences, training sessions, and presentations.
• Advises clients on new developments in the law; and proactively identifies potential problem areas for clients to minimize risk.
• Research complex legal issues related to health law, not-for-profit corporations.
• Ability to manage outside counsel and interact professionally and effectively with internal clients.
