The College of Engineering at Drexel University invites applicants with a strong background in Systems Engineering for a dual-role position as full-time non-tenure track Associate/Full Teaching Professor position and Program Director within the Systems Engineering and Engineering Management Program. As the leader for these programs, the candidate will be expected to provide a vision and leadership that will sustain and advance the recent growth seen by the department. A willingness to further the department's strides in teaching, scholarship and graduate education is required as well as the flexibility to teach both online and face to face. The selected candidate must also possess the ability to foster existing industry relations and develop new ones both domestically and internationally. A willingness to work with the various other units in the College and University on interdisciplinary projects is also required.
This is a nine-month or twelve-month non-tenure track position. Although renewal is dependent upon academic program needs, budget and performance, the position is intended to be long term with the successful candidate becoming an active member and leader of the program and participating in program planning, curriculum development, and outreach efforts. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering or a related field, demonstrated leadership abilities and academic experience and a proven record of effective teaching and professional service. Candidates must have a demonstrated record of, or commitment to, scholarly achievement and excellence. Desirable teaching qualifications include: evidence of excellence in teaching, excellent verbal and written communication skills, interest in a highly collaborative faculty environment, experience in and enthusiasm to teach primarily online with some additional face to face opportunities, and experience in curriculum planning. Significant relevant engineering and engineering management industry experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated leadership skills, exemplary service and civic engagement record.
The successful candidate will be responsible for instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate level and will also have the opportunity to engage in scholarly research. Teaching will occur at Drexel University's Main Campus, primarily online but scheduling may include some day, evening, and/or weekend courses on-site. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer courses for extra compensation.
The successful candidate will be required to engage in service activities that could include serving on various Department, College and University committees, industry and community outreach, and supporting student activities.
Primary responsibilities are to work with the faculty to set and achieve the strategic goals and objectives of the College and to ensure the academic quality of the program by leading innovative and rich curricula development. The successful candidate will have the authority and responsibility for teaching assignments and the annual teaching loads for both the full time and adjunct faculty within the program. The Program Director will oversee recruitment and is responsible for the hiring and promotion of qualified adjunct faculty. In addition, the Program Director will actively encourage increased efforts of research and scholarship, support new initiatives including credit, non-credit and custom training programs, lead assessment and evaluation, program accreditation and reporting activities. The successful candidate will work with Enrollment Management and Drexel University Online to meet and achieve enrollment targets. They will oversee academic administrative activities to ensure instructional support to faculty and students. These include managing operational budgets, hiring staff, directing performance management of faculty and staff, developing the Program's industry advisory board, developing external relationships with industry and professional groups, maintaining and enhancing activities and relationships with alumni, participating in committee work to promote the advancement of the department, and College providing related support as requested.

The MS Systems Engineering degree is newly established at Drexel University, within the Department of Engineering Management. As such, it is in an early growth phase. While all of the core and some elective courses have been developed by current adjunct faculty, there is opportunity for additional program development. The Systems Engineering curriculum is closely related to and jointly staffed with the faculty of the online Engineering Management program, a well-established program at Drexel, and is one of three programs in the Department.
