Position:        Associate Executive Director, Downstate

Responsibilities: The Associate Executive Director reports directly to the CEO and provides overall advocacy and member services to downstate Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies (COFCCA) members especially in the field of foster care, residential care and juvenile justice services.

Duties:

?          Leadership

? Provide consistent, forward thinking leadership to member agencies in public policy, advocacy, and member services.

? Listen to member agency executives and senior staff in order to understand the issues important to them and effectively act on them as needed.

? Actively work with program committees and staff in the development of policy goals and practice improvements

? Develop and direct application of effective strategies for achievement of policy goals.

? Work with COFCCA?s NYC Steering Committee to help identify and prioritize the issues    requiring the Council?s attention in New York City.

? Supervise assigned staff (currently Director of Preventive Services and Director of Training), including coordination of priorities.

? Participate in coordination of the flow of information to member agencies.

? Testify, as needed, before government bodies.

?          Executive Support

? Support CEO in work with members and government.

? Provide support to member agency executives in pertinent areas.

? Respond to member inquiries.

? Represent COFCCA at selected member events.

?          Communication

? Be able to speak and write proficiently to communicate COFCCA?s positions.

? Speak at membership conferences and other member related conferences.

? Represent and communicate COFCCA positions with external groups.

? Build and maintain positive working relationships with representatives of member agencies, advocacy groups and government representatives.

? Represent COFCCA in formal and informal professional work situations.

? Build and maintain productive relationships.

? Work with committee chairs and organize multiple meetings.

Qualifications:

?          Experience

? Significant and sustained leadership experience in related social work, public policy areas or as an executive in the field.

? Experience in supervising staff and meeting facilitation.

? Public policy experience in the areas of child welfare and juvenile justice highly desirable.

? Knowledge and understanding of foster care, preventive services and other related issues.

? Familiarity with NYC Administration for Children?s Services (ACS) strongly preferred.

?Highly organized, self-motivated and able to work independently.

? Team player who enjoys working collaboratively with staff, member agencies, government representatives and representatives of other advocacy groups.

? Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.

? ?Quick study? with demonstrated capacity to absorb complex issues, organize effective strategy and effectively carry the strategy to completion.

? Able to hear multiple opinions and respond accordingly.

? Personable and engaging, responsive to member inquiries and concerns.

? Excellent writing skills with demonstrated experience conveying key messages clearly, timely and succinctly.

?          Education

?Masters of Social Work or similar Advanced degreepreferred.
