Essential Job Functions

Walk to End Alzheimer's

  • Lead the Walk to End Alzheimer's Campaign in East Central Iowa and provide supervision, direction and coaching of staff and volunteers fully implementing best practices.
  • Direct responsibility to plan, implement and evaluate the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Cedar Rapids through year-round recruitment, promotion, and volunteer engagement.  
  • Work with vendors on chapter-wide Walk promotional, collateral and incentive materials.  
  • Work with Community Outreach Coordinators to build volunteer infrastructure to support Walk model.  


  • Plan and implement Chapter's Reason to Hope Luncheon with support of volunteer committee.
  • Plan and implement Chapter's Round to Remember Golf Classic with support of volunteer committee.
  • Provide guidance and direction for The Longest Day and other Chapter events managed locally by Community Outreach Coordinators.
  • Cultivate relationships with individuals, businesses, and industries to increase community and corporate support of the Alzheimer's Association.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporate sponsors to support Chapter events.


  • Serves as a member of the East Central Iowa management team.
  • Work with Executive Director to develop event goals and budget to support the Chapter's strategic plan initiatives.
  • Develop work plans and strategies to increase funds and diversify revenue streams.

  • Supervise, coach and evaluate performance of Community Outreach Coordinators.  
  • Collaborate with Program and Communications Coordinator on Chapter event promotion and social media strategy.  
  • Create and lead training opportunities for staff and volunteers as needed
  • Represent the Alzheimer's Association at community events, deliver presentations, and serve as media spokesperson as it relates to the association's community outreach efforts.  
  • Serve as point of contact for cause-marketing opportunities and third-party inquiries and events.  Serve as staff liaison to Resource Development Workgroup and event staff at the home office.  
  • Work with program team to promote chapter programs and services and recruit individuals as advocates, AIM members and enroll in TrialMatch.  
  • Support and participate in advocacy and public policy activities as requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, health promotions, public relations, philanthropy, business or equivalent.
  • 7-10 years experience in fundraising and development.
  • At least 3-5 years experience in staff and volunteer management, recruitment and retention.  
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and work in fast paced environment with excellent time management and special event coordination.
  • Strong interest in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in providing educational and informational presentations. 
  • Knowledge and experience with social media platforms.  
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have transportation to attend meetings and perform outreach duties. 
  • Ability to travel throughout the East Central Iowa Chapter territory to perform and participate in tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrated experience in networking with collaborative agencies and providers. 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends; with occasional overnights.
