The Associate Director of Development is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to increase the number and level of donations received within the School of Nursing’s Major gift program and Annual Giving Program. The goal of the Annual Giving Program is to secure regular support for the School of Nursing (SON) from alumni, faculty, staff, and other donors. The goal of the Major Gift program is to secure larger gifts from major donors of the school of nursing including multiyear pledges to the School of Nursing. The Associate Director also promotes JHSON to corporations and foundations, and works with the Associate Dean of Development on outreach and relationship-building with these groups.
· Act as one of the SON’s liaison with the Johns Hopkins Office of Annual Giving.
· Develop and write creative direct mail solicitation materials.
· Review lists of leadership donors to receive direct mail pieces, and supervise mailing of pledge reminders, working closely with team members to ensure lists are accurate.
· Coordinate an annual staff and faculty appeal to encourage new payroll deduction gifts.
· Working closely with the Associate Director of Alumni Relations, suggest strategies and approaches for achieving a fundraising target for each class.
· Manage and solicit gifts from a portfolio of 150 major gift prospects.
· Conduct 100 face-to-face discovery and stewardship visits per year with prospects, potential and current annual giving, and to steward past support to the School.
· Responsible for soliciting donors (both corporate and individuals) and raising the funds required for the annual Evening with the Stars event.
· Work closely with the Office of Gift Planning to ensure prospects over age 60 receive timely advice about how to make a planned gift to the School during their reunion year.
· Take responsibility for development and upkeep of the School of Nursing’s online giving web pages, and for developing and implementing strategies to engage alumni and other supporters to give electronically e.g. via online networks, email updates, etc.)
· Developing regular annual support from within Baltimore, and elsewhere, for the School’s Community Public Health Nursing programs and healthcare centers in East Baltimore.
· Work closely with the Office of Gift Planning, and the SON’s Marketing & Communications department to develop advertisements and mail pieces for inclusion in the Johns Hopkins Nursing Magazine.
· Other duties as assigned
· Travel and some weekend work should be expected.
The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and should have 3 years of related experience in Development, Alumni Relations, Marketing, or Communications within an academic or nonprofit organization, and a minimum of 1 year of professional experience.
The ideal candidate will have:
· Prior experience of running a direct marketing program, and will be able to demonstrate success in building an annual giving program or in successfully running an Alumni Reunion Giving program.
· Excellent writing and communications skills.
· Creative. Flexible. Excellent computer skills including Word and Excel, and experience in working withdatabases.
· Ability to work as part of a team while being a self-starter.
· Willingness to travel.
