AMAG seeks a strategic and creative Associate Director/Director, Corporate Communications to be a key member of the External Affairs Communications team. This role will be responsible for managing AMAG’s external communications activities, including media relations, public relations, and social communicationReporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Communications and Alliance Engagement this role will manage external corporate communications activities and build relationships with media to establish and increase greater awareness of AMAG as a thought leader in the biopharmaceutical industry. He/she will also will also collaborate withkey functions to develop a strategic vision for the company’s digital and social presence, as well as be responsible for executing thestrategy across the AMAG social channels. The Associate Director/Director should have experience working with and managing theactivities of a public relations agency. He/she will also help develop clear metrics to measure the success of key initiatives against the overall strategy and will collaborate with internal colleagues to create an inspiring and engaging culture of collaboration, accountability and transparency. The position is based in Waltham, Mass.

Key responsibilities:

  • Help develop and execute proactive and reactive communications and public relations strategies and tactics related to the AMAG corporate brand
  • Draft and update communications materials that relate to company activities and specific product milestones (including Q&As, press releases, fact sheets, interview briefs, media responses/holding statements, messaging, presentations, and business correspondence), and manage the material approval process, including medical-legal-regulatory (MLR) review
  • Develop and implement social and digital media strategies and tactics for the corporate brandworking in collaboration with theproduct teams’ when appropriate to ensure alignment with the therapeutic area/product  social channels
  • Support investor relations-led communications related to key product milestones for the maternal health, newborn stem cell preservation and hematology/oncology therapeutic areas
  • Responsible for developing and managing relationships with key trade publication editors and writers, as well as monitoring and contributing relevant company input to their editorial calendars, and events
  • Proactively identify opportunities for senior management to collaborate with and influence editorial content, including arranging interviews and speaking opportunities, and authoring bylined articles
  • Assist with the development of a crisis communications protocol which protects AMAG’s reputation in traditional and social media. Prepare responses to issue-related media/social media inquiries
  • Responsible for making updates to the corporate website as well as producing engaging content and timely updates asneeded
  • Work with PR/communications agency partners to ensure delivery of projects and programs within budget and on schedule
  • Collaborate with product communication team members on media relations related to products/pipeline, disease states, and policy/regulatory activities
  • Partner with External Affairs colleagues (e.g. corporate and product communications, alliance engagement, internalcommunications, policy and public affairs) to ensure alignment and engagement on corporate and product messaging, media relations, executive/corporate visibility, issues and reputation management and advocacy activities



  • BA/BS in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing
  • 7-10 years of corporate communications, media relations and public relations experience
  • Agency experience preferredexperience working  on product communications within the pharmaceutical industry required
  • Exceptional oral and written communications skills (including editing and proofreading skills)
  • Experience developing and implementing social media strategies on major platforms (i.e. TwitterFacebookLinkedIn,Instagram, Snapchat etc.)
  • Experience and comfort working with reporters and media
  • Experience working on and effectively handling crisis and issues management, including ability to anticipate potential challenges and respond to them effectively when they occur
  • Ability to quickly learn complex and dynamic issues and apply creative solutions to developing high-impact communicationscampaigns
  • Outstanding project management skills; ability to manage projects from conception to completion and comfortable managingmultiple projects at once
  • Capable of managing shifting priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent business judgment when making decisions; always considers the relevance/impact of each decision on the business
  • Excellent follow-through, attention to detail and high sense of urgency
  • Conflict management and resolution skills, including an ability to listen
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build, maintain and influence effective working relationships with key internalstakeholders, including marketing, medical affairs, legal, compliance and regulatory
