The Position
The position is responsible for developing and driving execution of Area based Pharmacy strategy and customer approach within the Commercial Field Area. Will work with brand teams and have point/lead responsibility for incorprating Franchise strategies into area pharmacy approach to drive sales performance in a given field Area. Partners and coordinates with the Market Access, and Strategic Support & Mature Brands teams to develop national pharmacy initiatives. Prospects and develops business relationships with key customers within the area, focusing on pharmacy chains to capitalize on opportunities that drive field sales performance in a given Area.

The position reports to the Director, Commercial Execution. Partners heavily with Region Business Directors, Director Area Health Systems, and respective peers within the field on identifying pharmacy opportunities within local markets. Additionally, this person will partner with the Insulin and GLP1 Brand teams, Market Access, and Strategic Support & Mature Brands team to craft and develop national pharmacy initiatives and strategy. This person will work closely with all levels of the business in regards to business development, understanding trends, and translating marketing strategy into local field execution in the pharmacy setting.

Essential Functions

  • Has point/lead responsibility to create, integrate, and execute area pharmacy approach, working with key internal stakeholder to mold a national approach to pharmacy selling
  • Establish best practices on executing field approach to pharmacy strategy, informing training needs/gaps, collaborating with Director, Field Training to create and provide training solutions.
  • Ensures the sales force is effectively executing the strategic and tactical elements of the pharmacy plan
  • Conduct field travel including field rides with representatives, district managers, customer dinners, and sales meetings.
  • Ensure Area pharmacy initiatives align to National pharmacy plans
  • Coordinates and develops a pharmacy deployment and targeting strategy for the area managing down to a regional implementation of key pharmacy marketing tactics ensuring targeting is optimal
  • Utilizing industry knowledge and an understanding of client business issues to provide insightful input into the development of NNI pharmacy offerings


  • Ensures cascade of area information throughout the respective regions
  • Provides two-way communication between field and home office functions
  • Serves as the liaison for pharmacy communications between field, marketing and market access/trade teams


  • Develops productive business relationships with Retail pharmacy prospective customers that build individual customer trust and confidence in Novo Nordisk.
  • Successfully works collaboratively with internal NNI subject matter experts, business stakeholders, trade, market access and sales team members as required/appropriate to sell to new pharmacy businesses.
  • Establish networks and relations with district business managers of target pharmacy chains to identify business opportunities and pull through retail initiatives


  • Provides local market pull through of national/area pharmacy programs, processes and tools
  • Coordinates the implementation and execution of pharmacy market plans
  • Ensures optimal resource utilization and ROI for key strategies aligned with the Customer Focused Model
  • Identifies local market needs across the regions and partners with the Commercial Execution team to filter and address

Physical Requirements
75-90% overnight travel required. Driver must maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred
  • Requires 10 years of sales, pharmacy, or market access experience in pharmaceuticals and/or related healthcare
  • Channel experiencepreferred
  • Portfolio selling approaches preferred
  • Ability to operationalize marketing tools and resources to drive business results
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize
  • Strong level of analytics and insight generation required
  • Strategic planning experiencepreferred
