Minimum qualifications:

  • JD degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • years of attorney experience in the broadcast or cable industry, and experience with the legal and policy landscape, intellectual property matters and general content licensing.
  • Must be admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registeredin-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience advising clients in structuring and leading complex commercial transactions.
  • Extensive background in drafting and negotiating complex technology and Intellectual Property (IP) license agreements, content development agreements.
  • High level of comfort escalating and presenting key issues to senior management when appropriate.

As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

In this role, you will support YouTube on projects related to content acquisition and distribution. You will have experience as both the licensor and licensee of content distribution agreements, and with issues related toadvertising, influencer marketing, and consumer protection. You will lead negotiations and work effectively across teams to develop solutions for our business partners and product teams. You will need to synthesize multiplestrategic decisions into novel positions, bringing creative legal problem-solving to new businesses for YouTube and Google.

You'll be supporting a product that operates very much like a rapidly growing start-up business, within a dynamic and enthusiastic environment with a minimal amount of hierarchy and oversight. You will work directly and daily withour internal clients, in a tight, cross-functionally integrated team environment, where you will be expected toparticipate in, and add to, critical product, business and brand decisions, often of first-impression. Finally, you willalso provide general legal support for YouTube's commercial, marketing and business development teams.

  • Review, draft and negotiate content licenses and intellectual property agreements (inbound and outbound), advertising arrangements, vendor agreements, technology licensing agreements, marketing agreements and content development agreements on a daily basis.
  • Negotiate agreements that comply with company policies and risk tolerance.
  • Respond promptly, often on short timelines, to legal requests from business development, marketing and other clients, summarizing and communicating legal concepts in plain English.
  • Advise business clients, as well as finance, product, and other company colleagues on legal issues and risks, complex deal structures, approval processes, company policies and procedures, IP and negotiation strategy.
  • Support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes.
