The Medical Director must be a board certified toxicologist and must be eligible for medical staff privileges at UConn Health’s John Dempsey Hospital. Emergency Medicine board certification is preferred but not essential. S/he must have demonstrated management and administrative leadership experience. Experience with business development, staff development and/or MBA (health care) are desirable assets. A hardworking team player with strong interpersonal abilities and collaborative skill are necessary.

The Medical Director will:

  • assume responsibility for clinical activities of the staff and for the appropriateness and quality of information and recommendations provided

  • see patients in a clinical setting appropriate for the Medical Director’s specialty

  • oversee management guideline review and development

  • collaborate with the Administrative Director, to whom the PCC staff report, in matters of personnel, budget, Q/A and clinical guidelines

  • assure the staff has continuous availability to a qualified medical toxicologist 24 hours a day for guidance and assistance in managing cases when needed

  • collaborate with the Administrative Director in ensuring the performance of continuous quality improvement and assist in the selection of educational content

  • Serve as Principal Investigator for the Center’s grants.
