Position Summary:

The Associate Director (“AD”) for Business Development at Rochester Data Science Consortium reports to the RDSC Executive Director and is responsible for expanding RDSC industry partnerships and maintaining existing relationships with industry partners. The AD is also responsible for collaborating with the RDSC Executive Director to develop additional government and industry sources of research funding. This position is RDSC’s primary contact with industry and sponsoring government agencies for RSDC activities as well as with University and public relations areas.  The AD will also be responsible guiding the marketing and communications strategy alongside the RDSC Executive Director in collaboration with internal and external partners.


Under general guidance and with latitude to exercise independent judgment, the duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Identify and implement strategies for securing additional commercial research contracts from new and existing industry partners and ensure integrity of relationships with existing partner companies. Participate in strategic planning activities for the RDSC (which would include RDSC marketing and communication plan). Cultivate/Maintain knowledge of region’s needs and strengths, trends in the RDSC’s area(s) of focus and potential expansion opportunities.  Regularly update RDSC Executive Director and management staff relative to business development activities, industry and sponsoring government agency news.

Identify and manage RDSC relationships by maintaining comprehensive database of active and prospective RDSC contacts. Ensure the needs of RDSC’s constituents are addressed through periodic contact (i.e. satisfaction survey, group or individual meetings, targeted presentations).  Collaborate with RDSC Executive Director and staff, industry and/or university liaisons during funding cycle to ensure understanding of sponsoring government agency requirements to ensure successful project submission.

Direct the annual Economic Impact reporting process as a requirement for the RDSC’s continued funding.  Solicit information from RDSC’s industry partners and track for completeness and adherence to sponsoring agency standards. Prepare data for submission to sponsoring agency in applicable format by prescribed reporting deadline.

Organize RDSC special events and publication as required utilizing RDSC support staff.  Represent RDSC at local/regional, state and national meetings.  Act as point of contact for RDSC information with industry contacts and University government and public relations areas.

Other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s Degree plus five years technical experience in either Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, imaging or combination of the same preferred (or the equivalent combination of education and experience).

Effective communication skills and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of an organization/entity.

Requisite computer skills as necessary. Ability to work independently as assigned by RDSC Director.
