The Wisconsin Adult Congenital Heart Disease (WAtCH) Program at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee, WI invites applications for an open rank faculty position for an adult congenital cardiologist. This individual must be board certified/eligible for adult congenital heart disease, and be either board certified in adult cardiovascular medicine or pediatric cardiology. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
The WAtCH program currently has 4 adult congenital board certified providers supported by a program coordinator, 4 nurses, 2 APNPs and a social worker. The WAtCH program is primarily based within the Herma Heart Institute at Children’s Wisconsin, but extends to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital (the adult hospital on the same campus) and other outreach sites in Eastern Wisconsin. Clinic volume is approximately 2500-3000 yearly outpatient clinic visits, and there are approximately 50 surgical cases/year done at either Children’s Wisconsin or Froedtert Memorial Hospital. In addition to adult congenital care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and depending upon the applicant’s background, the faculty position could also include general cardiology, care of connective tissue disease patients, imaging, interventional or electrophysiology in either the adult or pediatric cardiology division as appropriate. There are opportunities for scholarly activity, and research with 20% of time dedicated to administrative and/or academic endeavors.
The pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery program at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children's Wisconsin exists under the umbrella of the Herma Heart Institute (HHI). The HHI is internationally recognized for excellence, particularly in the care of children with complex congenital heart disease, and is a nationally ranked congenital cardiac program. The HHI provides comprehensive pediatric and adult congenital cardiovascular services throughout the Midwest and consists of 30 pediatric cardiology faculty members, 3 pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons, 8 pediatric cardiac intensivists, and 11 cardiology fellows along with a cadre of highly skilled nurse practitioners and physician assistants. With a commitment to both clinical and academic excellence, opportunities abound for candidates with an interest in research and medical education.
The adult cardiology division is a large multi-specialty practice that continues to experience significant growth with state of the art equipment and new facilities. The adult cardiovascular comprehensive program includes cardiac CT, cardiac MRI, 3D echocardiography, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure with transplantation and advanced therapies, and a full complement of complex and structural interventions Froedtert Hospital ranked 3rd nationally of top performing academic medical centers by Vizient in 2017.
