Function/Duties of Position

The appointee shall serve as a neonatal/newborn hospitalist, and/or advanced practitioner, first call provider for hospitalized newborn infants. The General Pediatrician, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate/Assistant will provide services as assigned by the division head in furtherance of the university's missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. This position provides clinical care coverage at OHSU Hillsboro/Tuality, OHSU's Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center with additional coverage at any of our OHSU affiliated or partner hospitals: PeaceHealth in Vancouver, Washington, and Adventist Health.

The duties of this position include:
  • Leadership (not related to teaching or research):
    • There are multiple opportunities at regional neonatology facilities and at OHSU.
  • Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):
    • This position provides clinical care at OHSU's Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center. There will be some additional expectation of coverage at Vancouver, Washington and at our partner hospitals, Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health. This position works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to neonatology patients.
  • Administrative Activities:
    • As an OHSU faculty member this person would be required to participate in faculty meetings at the division and department level. All pediatric faculty members are expected to aid the division head and department chair in providing direction to the division and the department both on a day to day basis and as part of ongoing strategic planning and strategic planning.
  • Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):
    • OHSU faculty members are expected to have some scholarly activity. This may be limited to educating learners as outlined below, but may also include research, and other grant supported work or academic papers and presentations in disciplines related to their field of expertise. Faculty members are often called upon to partner with other providers and members of the department or division research support staff in research activity. Faculty members are expected to participate in clinical research as needed, often with the help of trained research support staff and senior faculty principal investigators.
  • Education (include types of teaching and types of student taught):
    • This position provides clinical education to fellows, residents, medical students, and nurse practitioner students participating in newborn care rotations. As part of the multidisciplinary team charged with educating learners in the neonatology environment, this person would be expected to provide feedback and evaluation, both formally and informally, of learners working in neonatology.
  • Other Activities:
    • Faculty members may be called upon to serve on OHSU committees and in other activities as directed by the department chair or division head in furtherance of division, department, or OHSU goals and objectives.


Required Qualifications

  • Appointee must be board-certified/board eligible General Pediatrician, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Associate/Assistant with appropriate training and experience to care for infants in a level III and/or level IV NICU.
  • Must be eligible for, or currently have Washington and Oregon nursing/medical licenses.
