Job Description:


The Assistant General Counsel will provide support for the Legal Department’s asset management group across business segments, including medical office, healthcare, senior housing, life sciences and loan portfolio.  The candidate should be a real estate attorney with approximately 4-7 years of experience, preferably in a law firm, who is able to balance multiple assignments and handle complex issues that require seasoned legal judgment and sound business logic.


Provide legal support to the Company including:

  • Document interpretation


  • lease, management, and loan agreements, amendments and other related agreements
  • confidentiality agreements
  • development-related documents
  • tenant waivers and consent agreements
  • easements and deeds in lieu and other condemnation and eminent domain related matters
  • service and vendor agreements
  • tenant and lender notices
  • purchase agreements
  • joint venture agreements

Partner with other departments (e.g., Asset Management, Acquisitions, Tax, Accounting, Risk Management) to evaluate and act upon a wide range of matters, including ordinary course operator/tenant requests, transactions, financing matters, developments and redevelopments and tenant disputes


  • 4-7 years of real estate legal experience, preferably in a law firm
  • Must have broad real estate expertise (including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, joint ventures and financing)
  • General corporate knowledge, knowledge of environmental law, and knowledge of healthcare law and litigation useful but not required
  • Candidate should possess strong drafting, negotiation and communication skills, contextual skills, demonstrate attention to detail, and contribute to a positive team atmosphere
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and relationships within a fast-paced, team-oriented and lean environment
  • Ability to work with many deadlines, time requirement conflicts and management pressures / stressful situations
