Unionized Position CodeNot ApplicableJob DescriptionThe Assistant Dean for Advancement and External Affairs (AEA) for the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) reports to both the Dean of the College and to the University Vice President for Advancement for Schools, Colleges, Libraries, and Administration.
S/he is responsible for the development and execution of the College’s fundraising strategic plan and management of the College’s advancement staff, as well as directs and coordinates its engagement efforts. The position comprehensively manages the School’s advancement program and directly oversees the College’s external relations, communications and marketing staff.
S/he has front-line responsibility for solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of major donors and prospective donors. The position works closely with the Dean, and also supports the College’s Leadership Council.
This individual serves as the liaison between the College and the University Division of Advancement and External Affairs with regards to fundraising priorities and coordination of initiatives. At the University level, s/he partners with Alumni Engagement, Philanthropic Engagement (Annual Giving), Corporate and Foundation Relations, Planned Giving, Major and Principal Gifts. At the College level, s/he partners with the offices for research, corporate engagement, and career services as well as with faculty and staff.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Considerable experience in fundraising work in higher education is required.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Job Specific QualificationsAbility to lead and manage a comprehensive advancement operation.
Strong experience in major gift fundraising with a demonstrated record of successfully soliciting six and seven figure gifts.
Possess outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to build collaborative relationships. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of academic alumni engagement and development activities.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with partners and colleagues across a complex institutional framework.
Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
Willingness and availability to travel domestically.
Experience or interest in development and engagement activities in support of engineering, STEM, technology, and the entrepreneurial enterprise preferred.
Experience in working with a professional/graduate school constituency preferred.
ResponsibilitiesServe as the College’s lead Advancement Officer creating strategy for the College and the AEA Team that includes alumni, parents, friends, foundations, and corporations.
Lead and participate in campaign planning, implementation and achievement of stated goals.
Direct the College in planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of operational functions including direct supervision and oversight of College’s advancement and communications staff.
Cultivate relationships between donors and the College, including an active and philanthropic advisory board.
Serve as liaison to all the Colleges various other alumni and advisory boards.
Travel nationally with the Dean and individually to cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospective donors, through the management of an assigned portfolio of donors as well as proactive qualification of assigned prospective donors.
Coordinate and ensure the accuracy of data entry and maintenance of ECS related development records, interactions, and donor/prospect files via CITRUS in collaboration with AEA central units.
Direct the College efforts in planning, executing and marketing College events and special initiatives aimed at fostering strong collaboration with the College’s advisory board, cultivating donors, engaging alumni, and enhancing the visibility and reputation of the College.
Coordinate with the Senior VP for Advancement and the Vice President for Schools, Colleges, Libraries and Administration regarding strategy and alignment with central Advancement’s objectives. Includes collaboration with the VP of Principal Gifts for identified and prospective donors at the highest levels as well as the Associate VP for International and Regional Advancement for all regional and international activity.
