This position will be primarily responsible for supporting MediGold, a provider owned Medicare Advantage program in greater central Ohio serving over 55,000 seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries in 31 Ohio counties, as well as Mount Carmel Health System, an integrated health system with five central Ohio hospitals – Mount Carmel East, Mount Carmel West, Mount Carmel St. Ann's, Mount Carmel New Albany and Diley Ridge Medical Center.

Mount Carmel also offers emergency care, ambulatory surgery centers, outpatient facilities, physician offices and community outreach services. Mount Carmel is home to more than 10,000 employees, 1,600 physicians and 1,000 volunteers who are committed to high quality-patient-centered care.

Experience with regulatory rules and issues for Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, and Department of Insurance regulation, plus hands on experience with formal and informal federal and state regulatory processes and insurance compliance experience strongly preferred. Experience in various health insurance regulatory aspects related to utilization and medical management , claims management and health care provider associations also preferred.

POSITION PURPOSE

Provides legal services for Trinity Health and assigned Regional Health Ministry (RHM) consistent with the Trinity Health Legal Department and, in coordination with, the needs of the assigned RHM senior management team, and the strategies and priorities of the organization. Responsible for handling a variety of routine to moderately complex legal matters or projects.  Work requires independent judgment and often requires direct client contact.  This position may be assigned to Trinity Health corporate or a specific RHM providing legal counsel consistent with the Trinity Health Legal Department, and in coordination with the needs of the assigned RHM senior management team, and the strategies and priorities of the organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision and values of Trinity Health and assigned RHM in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.

Provides legal counsel to assigned RHM and its operating entities with respect to matters in the field of corporate healthcarelaw.

Meets routinely with the supervisor to establish priorities and manage expectations for the delivery of legal services at the assigned RHM.

Provides specific areas of legal expertise to the Trinity Health Legal Department and may perform legal services of a system-wide benefit.

Performs a variety of legal tasks within specific areas of expertise, including preparing formal memoranda and legal opinions on subjects that require extensive legal research.

Advises and performs a variety of legal assignments for Trinity Health corporate staff members, including officers and other management personnel.  Provides consultation and advice to RHM management and governance.

Represents the interests of the RHM in contacts with outside parties including attorneys, managers and officials of other companies and government agencies.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations; the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed attorney holding a J.D. degree from a recognized law school.

Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience practicing law with some experience in the practice of corporate healthcarelaw, including the laws affecting tax-exempt organizations, with demonstrated legal capability covering diverse legal assignments that occasionally include legal matters of major significance.

Must possess highly effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate directly, openly, and effectively with both internal and external constituencies. Strong negotiation skills and superb listening capabilities.

Must possess the ability to work independently on routine matters.  However, is expected to seek guidance and accept supervision on more complicated matters or where substantial amounts of money or significant otherrisks to Trinity Health are involved.

Attorney’s work is subject to review by the Trinity Health General Counsel, Managing Counsel or by other, more senior members of the Trinity Health Legal Department.

Must possess strong conceptual and analytical skills.

Strong interpersonal and consultative skills. Ability to deal tactfully with diverse people, situations and ideas and present advisory, persuasive and authoritative recommendations to all levels of the organization.

Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
