Reporting to the VP, Controller (Principal Accounting Officer), the Assistant Controller serves as a key financial leader of Dover Corporation. The Assistant Controller will work closely and collaborate with Treasury, Tax, Human Resources, Financial Planning, Investor Relations, Legal, Internal Audit and the Chief Financial Officers of each of the company's three segments. Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls skills are sought for this role to ensure global-wide reporting accuracy and to instill a culture of accountability and strong internal controls across the organization. Responsibilities in this role include providing critical accounting guidance for operational finance, including maintenance and enforcement of corporate accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and ensuring the integrity of Dover's financial data and reporting. Strong leadership skills are required to motivate and inspire team members to full potential, and to leverage collective strengths of all team members to achieve near term and strategic performance goals.

The Assistant Controller will manage a team responsible for:

  • Managing interactions with Dover's independent public accountants (PwC) for the planning, coordination and execution of the annual audit and other advisory services across the company, including review of auditor communications with the Audit Committee and Board of Directors.

  • Analyzing global operating results with a focus on understanding historical financial trends balanced with the perspective of understanding the impact of strategy on future operating results.

  • Oversight of global financial systems, including maintenance, system changes to support evolving business needs, and setting and executing on the long-term strategic direction.

  • Conducting quarterly segment review meetings to ensure no surprises in accounting and reporting for highly decentralized accounting operations, and ensuring accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.

  • Stewardship over holding companies and global operations accounting, monitoring, standardizing and improving efficiencies, particularly in the finance area.

  • Compliance with policies, procedures and controls for the company, recommending and creating policies and procedures where necessary.

  • Internal and external accounting and reporting is in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and ensuring company compliance with all regulatory (SEC and other) reporting requirements.

  • Supporting other global functions, including Treasury, Tax, Human Resources, Financial Planning, Investor Relations, Legal, Internal Audit, IT, and Segment Finance devoted to key global initiatives.

  • Assisting and coordinating research of technical accounting issues, including one-off transactions, and a decision maker with respect to accounting and reporting matters.

  • Partnering with the technical accounting team to assess pending FASB proposals and ensure consistent implementation of new standards in full compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

  • Developing future financial leaders through training and mentoring of individuals, as well as staffing and recruiting as necessary.

  • Consulting on the accounting impact of proposed business transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions and tax reorganizations. Advise operating executives on purchase valuation and accounting implications.

  • Interfacing with investor relations and assisting with the review of periodic earnings release materials.

  • Leading and supporting major projects involving finance transformation efforts (e.g., Dover Business Services, off shoring, centralization of review activities, robotic process automation (RPA), data mining, etc.).

  • Leading SOX Compliance, ensuring the proper design and operating effectiveness of the Company's internal controls for financial reporting (ICFR), including leading and executing the Company's quarterly disclosure controls and review procedures and concluding on internal control related matters that may arise.


The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of business judgment and bring meaningful perspectives to routine and complex financial, accounting, internal control and financial systems issues. The Assistant Controller should be able to quickly grasp company operations and business drivers, possess a high degree of integrity and independence with at least 12 years of experience dealing with complex global accounting, reporting, internal control and systems matters in the manufacturing sector. Candidates should have current or recent Big 4 public accounting firm experience and an active CPA license.

In addition, the ideal candidate must demonstrate a desire to progress and improve; be tenacious and self-confident with a proven ability to overcome obstacles in the pursuit of opportunities.

The Assistant Controller must feel comfortable working in as well as embracing an environment that is highly decentralized and heavily matrixed. This includes an effective ability to credibly communicate with and relate to people at all levels in the organization and proven experience and ability to motivate, manage and mentor teams. The ideal candidate will also have experience interfacing with and making presentations to both internal and external high-level executives, and be adept with information technology systems (e.g., ERP implementations) and continuous process improvement initiatives.
