Overview

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the organization's accounting operations, including the preparation of financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and implementation of internal controls. This role involves supervising accounting staff, managing month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and assisting in budgeting and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Assistant Controller plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties/Responsibilites

  • Provide direct support to the Controller in managing the organization’s accounting operations across multiple entities.
  • Lead and execute monthly and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of key operating expense and compensation accruals, to ensure the period expense in the books best reflects reality.
  • Align with the broader FP&A and Marketing teams to streamline department expense reporting post month-end close.
  • Maintain expertise in the company's revenue recognition methodology and related accounting treatments, ensuring accurate booking of revenue in the general ledger.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, and Data teams to understand and validate the end-to-end revenue data lifecycle, from source systems through the data warehouse and reporting layers.
  • Enhance daily and month-end internal reporting with regards to cash and headcount/ compensation metrics.
  • Perform bank, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances.
  • Administer and enhance internal controls, policies, and audit procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Streamline accounts payable processes and drive automation initiatives across the organization.
  • Partner with external accountants, auditors, and consultants during audits, filings, and special projects.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement through data analysis; develop and communicate recommendations supported by financial insights.
  • Lead, mentor, and upskill team members and cross-functional partners; guide projects and support team development.
Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a private or multi-entity organization.
  • Senior-level expertise with demonstrated authority in one or more accounting or finance disciplines.
  • Experience managing or significantly contributing to complex close processes, audits, and GAAP reporting.
  • Leadership experience guiding projects, influencing stakeholders, or developing junior team members.
  • Experience working with multiple subsidiaries, bank accounts, and international considerations strongly preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Expert-level accounting knowledge with strong GAAP proficiency.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas and financial analysis.
  • Working knowledge of company payroll system Dayforce; experience with payroll and reconciliations.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and other finance-adjacent systems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an inquisitive mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to identify, research, and synthesize information to support sound decision-making.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also leading by example.

Compensation InformationOur salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for each position across the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This good faith pay range is provided in compliance with NYC law and the laws of other jurisdictions that may require a salary range in job postings. The salary for this position is $140,000 to $151,000 annually. Benefits
