Counsel provides legal services to Port Houston leadership and staff. Represents Port Houston with the public, business partners, and other stakeholders. Acts as part of a team of in-house attorneys, providing a broad array of legal services.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide assistance, advice, and information on legal, business, and regulatory matters to Port Houston leadership and staff
  • Represent Port Houston in transactions, disputes, and governmental, regulatory, and other matters
  • Assist with formulation of objectives, plans, and programs for the Legal division and work with the Chief Legal Officer to integrate these into overall objectives, plans, and programs of the Port Houston
  • Work with the Chief Legal Officer, Port Houston leadership, and staff to formulate, execute, and communicate policies, procedures, and governmental and business initiatives
  • Prepare, review, and/or approve agreements, pleadings, and other legal documents
  • Assist with management of lawsuits and legal claims
  • Assist with supervision of, and work with, outside counsel
  • Manage paralegal assistants
  • Assist with the preparation of agendas, briefing books, and minutes of the Port Commission and its committees and task forces
  • Provide assistance and information to Port Houston stakeholders
  • Research legal, governmental, and business matters, formulate opinions and advice, and prepare memoranda regarding such matters
  • Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
  • Perform other duties as required by the Executive Director and Chief Legal Officer and as requested by other staff

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and law degree from an accredited law school required
  • 3+ years of related legal experience preferred
  • Current license to practice law in the State of Texas required
