Job Description Summary:
The Area Construction Manager 3 is responsible for managing scope of construction work within an assigned area with adequate assigned resources to assure project success (i.e., civil, electrical, mechanical, HVAC), and facilities management. The person in this role ensures constructability reviews are performed for assigned scope to validate installation sequences, meets construction budgets by monitoring project expenditures/variances and initiates corrections and presents and production meetings and to the customer. The Area Construction Manager 3 is also responsible for developing teams, fostering good working relationships and resolving conflicts with minimal disruption.

Responsibilities: 

  • Champion the commitment to safety, security, environmental and quality priorities and values throughout the MOX Project
  • Collaborate with other Area Construction Management in order to select subcontractor(s)
  • Determine labor requirements based on the project's needs and ensure that the appropriate personnel are dispatched to the appropriate construction scopes
  • Manage scope of construction work within assigned area with adequate assigned resources to assure project success (i.e., civil, electrical, mechanical, HVAC), and facilities management
  • Oversee and manage designated scope of construction and delivers on quality, costs and schedule commitments
  • Meet construction budgets by monitoring project expenditures, identifying variances and initiating corrections as needed
  • Ensure the installation sequencing requirements across all craft disciplines are appropriately communicated to the Work Control/Planning Process
  • Ensure integration with other Area Construction Managers to meet project priorities
  • Ensure all work is performed to the applicable codes and standards (i.e. ASME, AWS, ACI, etc.) and is in accordance with the MOX Services Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure constructability reviews are performed for assigned scope to validate installation sequences
  • Optimize construction efficiency and significantly reduce or eliminate rework where possible
  • Analyze data obtained from multiple project stakeholders (Design, Quality, Engineering, Scheduling, Project Controls, ES&H, etc.) to identify potential issues, areas for improvement and how to implement
  • Perform goal setting, observe milestones and identify obtainable goals or goals that may need to be re-worked based on obstacles
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts among the disciplines, including shared space
  • Ensure that all ES&H policies and procedures are consistently implemented and enforced
  • Present at production meeting and present strategies/scheduling to the customer as needed
  • Manage craft resources for a transition of multiple construction phases: bulk, build-out, area completion - strategize a systemized approach to support safe/efficient start-up and commissioning
  • Manage subordinates and craft to the highest Safety and ethical standards
  • Develop teams, foster good working relationships and resolve conflicts with minimal disruption
  • Coach/mentor Superintendents to be consistent in discipline actions/labor relation issues, escalate issues as needed to other levels of management
  • Coach /mentor Area Construction Managers with less experience:
    o For consistency in disciplinary actions/labor relation issues
    o For top up, top down and peer communication regarding progress, issues and resolutions
    o For meeting construction budgets, monitoring project expenditures and identifying variances
    o In optimizing efficiency and eliminating re-work
  • Perform work with very limited supervision

Required Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalent plus 17 years' experience reading technical drawings, working with piping, electrical, construction, etc.; or
  • Technical/Associate's Degree plus 15 years' experience reading technical drawings, working with piping, electrical, construction, etc.; or
  • Bachelor's Degree in construction, mechanical, electrical or civil fields plus 12 years' experience reading technical drawings, working with piping, electrical, construction, etc.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Quality experience
  • OSHA 300 certified
  • Effective communication skills--both written and verbal
  • Prior supervisory experience on a construction site or nuclear project
  • Knowledgeable of all phases of building construction, including work commonly produced by building crafts
  • Knowledgeable of EVMS (Earned Value Management System), Quantity Unit Rate Reporting and IPS (Integrated Project Scheduling)
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems
  • Knowledge of building materials, tools, and machines
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints and specifications for building
  • Must be customer-oriented and flexible to changes in job duties/work location
  • Must be team-oriented and able to work well with others
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, email
  • Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1
