This role exists at the interface of the applications and software engineering teams. In this role, you will help to manage the Python codebase that includes all application-level code used to execute biological workflows on Berkeley Lights' platforms. This role requires a strong foundation in object-oriented programming as well as exposure to advanced lab automation equipment with an emphasis on microscopy and microfluidics. A collaborative and supportive mindset is required to enable success of the team.

Responsibilities

Maintain the applications codebase: resolve bugs, enable features, and review code.
Enable automated unit and integration tests for verifying released processes and accelerating code development.
Support Applications Engineers in the design and implementation of Python code to enable new processes.
Reduce code debt through refactoring and application of scalable design patterns.

Requirements

MS or PhD with 0-3 years of industry experience in a traditional engineering field (Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) or Computer Science.
Experience in object-oriented programming with Python; exposure to C# is a plus.
Experience in the development of unit and integration tests.
Experience with Git; exposure to the Feature Branch Workflow.
Familiarity with cell/tissue culture, cell-based assays, and microscopy platforms; working knowledge of modern molecular and cell biology techniques.
Familiarity with the theory, design, and development of microfluidic systems.
Ability to work across disciplines and understand software use cases; can clearly articulate ideas, problems, and solutions.
