How this role will make an impact:

  • PetSmart is aggressively accelerating its mobile team and we are looking for strong, experienced team members who can drive us forward. The Software Engineer - Android will design and develop mobile software as a member of Scrum teams. The role includes Android design, development, unit and performance testing. As part of the Mobile Engineering team, this person will collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and other engineers to produce high quality solutions to support PetSmart business.

Your goals and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and unit test Mobile Applications in support of PetSmart business
  • Analyze business requirements, provide development estimates and feedback and determine proper implementation
  • Maintain, support, troubleshoot, monitor and optimize existing and future mobile applications
  • Work with other engineering, QA, marketing and product teams to design and implement quality software solutions
  • Conduct peer reviews of team members’ code
  • Research and recommend new mobile tools and applications

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • BS / BA degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • At least 5 years of native Android development
  • Strong knowledge of Android SDK, different versions of Android, and how to deal with different screen sizes
  • Must be hands-on and have experiencepublishing at least one consumer application to Google Play store or Enterprise deployments
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back-end services
  • Strong knowledge of Android UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
  • Experience with offline storage, threading, and performance tuning
  • Ability to design applications around natural user interfaces, such as “touch”
  • Familiarity with the use of additional sensors, such as gyroscopes and accelerometers
  • Knowledge of the open-source Android ecosystem and the libraries available for common tasks
  • Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements
  • Familiarity with cloud message APIs and push notifications
  • Familiarity with continuous integration
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git
  • Experience in benchmarking and optimization
  • Understanding of Google’s Android design principles and interface guidelines
  • Experience developing in an Agile environment
