Role Overview:

  • Leads large projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project execution; provides functional thought leadership
  • Anticipates internal & external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvements
  • Solves unique, complex problems that have a broad impact on business
  • Contributes to the development of functional strategy
  • Leads project teams

Responsibilities

  • Statistics /Mathematics / Computer Science –Quantifying evidence, understanding variation, and building computational tools
    • Solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
    • Contribute to the development of functional data strategy
    • Anticipate business data issues; recommend product, process or service improvements
    • Lead data projects with notable risk and complexity; develop the strategy for project execution; provides functional thought leadership
    • Understand the mathematical machinery underlying statistical methods and occasionally create custom inferential procedures using this mathematical machinery
    • Develop reusable and supportable code that solves business or technical challenges, using advanced object oriented programming constructs
    • Understand the object-oriented paradigm, parallel computing, and algorithms
    • Work with a variety of programming languages
  • Data Analysis – Applying the right transformations to the right data in an acceptable amount of time
    • Ability to write custom processing jobs on large data sets, etc.
    • Understand hardware considerations and design monitoring strategies
  • Machine Learning
    • Understanding of math behind the scenes to accomplish project objectives
    • Create custom algorithms and track algorithm performance
  • Communication
    • Communicate complex ideas, anticipates potential objections and persuades others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view
    • Shape how own and related discipline(s)/ department(s) integrates with the broader function
    • Internalize rationale for and impact of change/improvements and actively supports the new direction
    • Impact the direction and resource allocation for program, project or services; works within general functional policies and industry guidelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Statistics, Economics or related field. Advanced degree strongly preferred.

  • 10+ years’ directly related analytical experience; 5+ years’ experience in a strategic analytics role.
  • Statistics / Mathematics / Computer Science – Quantifying evidence, understanding variation, and building computational tools

    • Comfortable with the mathematical machinery underlying statistical methods
    • Ability to create custom inferential procedures using this mathematical machinery
    • Ability to develop reusable and supportable code that solves business or technical challenges
    • Deep understanding of the object-oriented paradigm, parallel computing, algorithms
    • Comfortable working in a variety of programming languages
  • Data Analysis – Applying the right transformations to the right data in an acceptable amount of time

    • Ability to write custom processing jobs on large data sets, etc.
  • Machine Learning

    • Understanding of math behind the scenes of modern machine learning methods
    • Staying current on research trends and providing a point of view as necessary
    • Ability to create custom algorithms for specific needs
    • Understanding of computational considerations behind key algorithms
  • Communication

    • Ability to create visualizations of complex data sets
    • Ability to communicate complex ideas, anticipate potential objections and persuade others, often at senior levels, to adopt a different point of view
    • Skilled in “demystifying” analytics and communicating benefits as opposed to technicalities
    • Capable of leading development of presentation logic and flow for entire document
    • Highly developed presentation skills and ability to tell “data stories”
