Functions/Duties of PositionThe Alliance Manager is responsible for managing Knight Cancer Institute industry alliances as well as working to establish new ones. Industry alliances are a critical component of the Knight's mission to transform our approach to treating cancer patients. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Alliances for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.
The Alliance Manager will serve as the primary point of contact representing OHSU, and will interact professionally with all levels of our industry partners, from front-line staff to high-level executives. The Alliance Manager will understand the Knight's collaborative projects to a degree that he or she can serve as a proxy for faculty in engaging our partners and can provide detailed reporting back to faculty. The position will be responsible for understanding the scientific, technical and operational viewpoints of diverse stakeholders both within the Knight and at our external partners, to guide resourcing of collaborative projects, to address issues that arise with our partner relationships, and to appropriately foresee and escalate issues when necessary.
The Alliance Manager will serve as OHSU Knight Cancer Institute's lead on specific collaborative projects, and will manage large teams and apply project management principles to move complex, multi-institutional projects through to completion. Projects include the preparation and presentation of collaboration proposals to industry partners and various funding sources. The Alliance Manager will work with OHSU stakeholders on all aspects of such projects, including scientific, legal, financial, and operational aspects. When appropriate, the Alliance Manager will step in to help accomplish or oversee specific tasks on projects, to facilitate timely project completion.
The Alliance Manager will also oversee the evaluation of significant emerging opportunities in the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. The position will be responsible for acting as the project lead and project manager for large, multi-institutional, collaborative projects and ensuring that all stakeholders are appropriately updated and are able to provide ongoing feedback during the evaluation process. The Alliance Manager must be able to gain an understanding of many different aspects of the opportunities under evaluation, (timelines, milestones, legal agreements, scientific, financial and operational aspects,) so that appropriate parties can be identified to provide feedback that would fill gaps in the team's knowledge and expertise, resulting in a complete, integrated evaluation.
