Position Description

The successful candidate will work in the Aerospace IT Organization located at the Aerospace SBU's global headquarters in Sylmar, California. The candidate will be a member of the Aerospace IT team responsible for business analysis and project management. In this role, he or she will partner with the Aerospace SBU teams to clarify and communicate business requirements, identify opportunities for process improvements, and utilize PPG's project methodology to guide initiatives to completion on time and on budget.


As an IT Business Analyst, this individual:

  • Will be a functional expert in sales support (CRM) and manufacturing and quality functions within the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Will be expected to identify opportunities for effective use of technology; implementing, and supporting IT solutions.
  • Be adept at assessing people, process, and technology dimensions of a situation in order to recommend the proper course of action.
  • Will be responsible for using PPG's Project Methodology to lead implementation, development, and enhancement IT projects.



Aerospace is a global business unit comprised of Transparencies, Coatings, Sealants, Chemical Management Services, and Packaging platforms. The incumbent will support projects at Aerospace locations including:

  • Transparencies: Sylmar, CA; Huntsville, AL; Cremona, Italy
  • C&S Manufacturing: Mojave, CA; Boston, MA
  • North American ASCs: Atlanta, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, Toronto
  • International ASCs: Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, UAE
  • Packaging: Sylmar, CA
  • Shared Services QAD users in Chillicothe, OH and Malaysia



The candidate must be willing to travel 20-30%, depending on project requirements.


Business

The IT Business Analyst will assist in providing support to the Aerospace business unit, leveraging prior experience in IT or within the business. They conduct and analyze business and information technology processes and prepare groundwork which allows the identification of potential solutions, evolution of possible business process and application changes. The incumbent is responsible for networking with others to understand how IT solutions are deployed in other areas to solve business problems. IT Business Analysts act as a liaison between IT and the business, and solicit requirements through interviews, workshops, process mapping, and/or existing systems documentation or procedures. They also assist with defining the functionality, cost, benefits and implementation requirements of information system technologies. In implementations, they will play a lead role in conference room pilots, user acceptance testing, and documenting and tracking issues through resolution.


Technical

The IT Business Analyst participates in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of business solutions. They identify customer requirements, develop test scripts, conduct conference room pilots, and track and document the results. Incumbents alert and advise project managers of potential risks and issues of importance. They uncover client requirements via industry standard analysis techniques such as data flow modeling, process mapping, and workflow analysis.


The IT Business Analyst can develop or maintain alternative technical solutions using various tools. They consult with other technical analysts to comply with PPG and industry standards and they document the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates or analysis tools. Incumbents are responsible for ensuring that solutions delivered to customers adhere to PPG's methodology and architectural standards including delivery of system and user documentation. The IT Business Analyst needs to demonstrate an understanding of technology's role in process improvement and possess analytical and conceptual skills.


Interpersonal

The IT Business Analyst needs to develop an understanding of the business area they serve. They need to demonstrate strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills and be able to establish effective working relationships with IT personnel and the customer base.


The IT Business Analyst should develop and maintain relationships with consultants and contractors to increase knowledge of software and systems. The ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business is required. Negotiation, influencing and bring others to consensus are key attributes of the successful IT Business Analyst.




Qualifications:



Minimum Requirements


  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, MIS, or related field is required;
  • At least 5 years of work experience in an IT or business role
  • Ability to rapidly assimilate assigned business area's products and processes
  • Understanding of how IT affects an organization and ability to link it to redesigned business processes.



Preferred requirements


  • An MBA or desire to obtain would be advantageous
  • Prior experience with sales, manufacturing, and/or quality processes
  • Prior experience with CRM or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (QAD EE knowledge is a plus), in an end user or support role.
  • Previous experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement is desirable
  • Experience in gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex technical concepts in audience appropriate terms
