FCA's Powertrain Controls department is seeking an Advanced Electrified Powertrain Controls Engineer to develop controls solutions for next generation electrified powertrain technologies. We are looking for a candidate with experience in controls and a strong understanding of powertrain systems. It is most important to us for a candidate to demonstrate a mindset of continuous learning and a track record of creating things that work. Experienced Powertrain Development and Calibration Engineers with enthusiasm for controls development are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will be able to significantly contribute in many or all of the following areas:

  • Strategic optimization of engine speed, gear, powertrain state, engine torque optimization
  • Tactical torque controls for drivability management, brake regeneration controls and hybrid shift execution strategies
  • Utilization of sensors in feedback and feedforward control strategies
  • Advanced control methodologies such as Model Predictive Control and Machine Learning

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Physics, or any other relevant STEM oriented degree from an ABET accredited university
  • 5 years of related work experience in controls, calibration, or systems development
  • 2 years in electrified powertrain
  • Demonstrated technical problem solving
  • Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validation
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a propulsion related field or control related field
  • Specialization in classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle application
  • Propulsion system calibration and/or embedded software experience
  • Demonstrated application of technical excellence (developed new process, experimental or computational; developed new numerical or modeling procedure; developed new statistical procedure; developed new problem solving approach; etc.)
  • Knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices
  • Demonstrated application of technical excellence
  • Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA
  • Experience with 0-D and 1-D physical modeling tools such as GT Power and AMSIM
  • Experience with rapid prototype controllers
