Job Description


The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to General Ledger. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely information for financial statements. The Accounting Manager supervises four accountants and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, reconciliations, fixed assets, year-end audit preparation (multiple locations) and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, obtainw and maintains a thorough understanding of the general ledger, fixed assets and financial reporting structure. Ensures an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close; the timely reporting, reconciliation and discrepancy resolution of all monthly financial information. Supports Finance with budget activities; collaborates with the other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives. Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy; advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions; responds to inquiries from the Senior Director of Finance and other finance and firm wide managers regarding General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Tax and special reporting requests. Works with the external auditors to ensure a clean and timely year end audits (multiple locations). Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met. Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department. Hire, coach, train and evaluate all assigned staff; handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc. Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Support Senior Director of Finance with special projects and workflow process improvements.

Candidates must have a BA/BS degree in Accounting and 5-7 years supervisory experience in financial reporting/general ledger area and fixed assets. Experience working in a law firm or professional services and experience with Aderant or other large automated accounting system is preferred. Must be PC proficient; have strong experience with Microsoft Excel and Word; and ten key by touch. The ideal candidate should be able to thrive in a fast -pace setting; have strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines. This position also requires the ability to lift/carry file boxes (25 lbs max).
