About the Opportunity

Directors are responsible for the day-to-day management of client accounts. At this level, a higher emphasis is placed on the development and display of strategic and creative thinking, proactive client counsel and relationship building, and team and project oversight and execution. In this supervisory capacity, they must oversee multiple teams and ensure successful execution of assigned client project work by ensuring that tasks have been effectively assigned, team members are mentored and final deliverables are delivered on-time and in a client-ready manner. Additionally, Directors serve a more central role on client planning teams, developing and recommending creative programs and tactics that alignwith client goals and business objectives. Overall, a Director should be seen as a central leadership figure with both agency peers and management, as well as client contacts.


What You Will Be Doing


Performance Leadership

  • Develop and manage program timelines to ensure all deadlines on client programs are met
  • Strengthen client relationships by assessing individual client needs and delivering counsel and program ideas as appropriate
  • Build and maintain the client relationship by not only participating in all client calls and meetings related to setting strategy and developing programs, but proactively identifying opportunities to provide information, counsel or insight
  • Oversee development of written materials, which might include press releases, pitches, Q&A documents, plans, and media lists
  • Provide staff direction in the areas of writing and editing, ensuring that materials are clear, concise and engaging
  • Ensure all client materials, including emails, plans, letters, memos, meeting reports, and client materials are strategically sound and client-ready; input by senior staff before distribution to client should be minimal and rarely related to structure or content
  • Develop and approve (as appropriate) strategic, integrated media plans that require minimal input from senior team leadership
  • Serve as team counsel for further development of engagement strategies and approaches
  • Review letters of agreement, contracts and strategic project plans for current and new clients
  • Anticipate and proactively offer solutions to senior team leadership for problems that arise specific to assigned programs
  • Develop long-term client plans and program recommendations; should be able to effectively develop a recommended approach for programs including either the direct or indirect (through leading agency brainstorms) creation of creative concepts
  • Drive the process for developing client presentations (detailing either program results or program recommendations) and present to client in an engaging and persuasive manner
  • Serve as information leader on client teams, demonstrating industry, cultural or media-driven issues that directly and indirectly affect the client; route articles of interest to account teams and client

Workplace Leadership

  • Oversee managers to ensure proper account team direction, issue resolution and opportunities for team members' professional development are identified
  • Review and approve (as appropriate) team roles and responsibilities for each project and ensure distribution to team (as needed)
  • Serve as performance champion for at least one member of team that includes providing recommendations regarding areas of improvement, promotion, etc.
  • Manage staff time allocations and account review for at least two (2) clients or projects each year (either by completing account review and allocations or reviewing and signing off before submission)
  • Participate in staffing discussions to aid in office-wide personnel allocation and deployment
  • Participate in regular, ongoing team meetings as dictated by the needs of the project and provide proactive updates to senior team leadership on project status and progress; provide counsel and suggested direction to team as appropriate
  • Assist in identifying new agency staff by reviewing resumes, interviewing candidates and providing timely feedback on all candidates
  • Adhere to Weber Shandwick code of conduct in all business interactions within and outside the agency

Market Leadership

  • Participate on two (2) new business teams each year
  • Either participate in or lead 4-8 brainstorm sessions with agency/team staff
  • Participate and present new business proposals to prospective clients
  • Develop and demonstrate superior presentation skills
  • Identify and become a member of at least one (1) professional industry organization

Operational Leadership

  • Responsible for account profitability through management of both staff and out-of-pocket expense budgets through the review or submission of account review
  • Display complete acumen related to the fiscal management of their accounts, including understanding of the P.O. process, OOPs tracker, staff time projections/allocations and billing
  • Responsible for creation of client budget estimates; budgets include costs for all relevant program components and should requireminimal input from senior team leadership
  • Track/enter time in a precise and timely manner
  • Ensure timely preparation and distribution of client invoices; review and serve as signatory for client invoices (as appropriate)
  • Perform other administrative tasks (as assigned)

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide operational leadership, suggesting process improvements to senior team leadership as necessary
  • Promote and endorse organizational change efforts through own words, actions, and priorities
  • Focus team on delivering goals and ensure that business targets are achieved
  • Work effectively with agency's different business units and foster solid intra-company relations


Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing or related industry
  • At least 7 years' related professional experience

Preferred Specialty Area Competencies

  • B2B experience required
  • Oil & gas experience preferred
  • B2B technology experience preferred
