The Account Director is responsible for driving marketing strategy across all segments, influences multiple or large scale mid-level client relationships, and is responsible for managing the workload and profitability of the assigned business.

Job Responsibilities                                                                                                                   

Business Management

  • Manages day-today aspects of one or more Agency accounts, as assigned, including owning multi-channel tactical implementation (print, digital, multi-media) and aligning both brand strategy and tactics to overall brand vision
  • Oversees Account Team (AE/AM/AS) to drive and own assigned projects/programs from creative brief development through deployment; Ensure total quality control of final output to Client
  • Partners with creative team to develop content/flow; Review and evaluate projects (copy/layout) to ensure they are on strategy and consistent with creative brief and client direction; oversee team to provide feedback to creative team
  • Ensures solid working relationships with internal team and peripheral departments within agency
  • Be able to recognize and advance big ideas, or opportunities for big ideas
  • Monitor and identify future marketing, cultural, consumer and advertising issues facing their client/s
  • Learn the Agency strategic process, and work closely with the Strategy & Creative Team to collaboratively identify the core Problem, Truth and Idea to drive extraordinary success for their Client/s
  • Understand all key Agency resources and brings them together to produce exceptional results for the client (e.g. an idea driven brand experience - narrative/function/community - delivered through advertising, digital, social etc)
  • Thinks proactively about brand strategy and lifecycle management
  • Leads tactical plan development with some guidance from supervisor; Substantively participate in strategic and tactical planning sessions at the Agency and Client to continue to grow strategic thinking and knowledge
  • Leads regular meetings with finance/accounting to ensure proper financial reporting and billing; Supervise AE/AM/AS in fiscal responsibilities
  • Leads scope of work and staffing plan development, collaborating with Project Management and department heads
  • Manages team in providing proper detailed project assumptions to Project Management/Coordination to ensure accurate Scope of Work/estimate development and review hours/OOPs against ongoing projects in partnership with Project Management; Manage brand profitability by evaluating/discussing financialreports to ensure projects are completed within budget and make recommendations to ensure revenue is achieved
  • When appropriate, acts as the liaison with other Client or Agency vendors as well as other companies within the McCann network

Client Relationship

  • Immerses self in Client’s business to champion stellar, business-building ideas and knows how to effectively collaborate in order to bring those ideas to life
  • Manages the account by appropriately guiding, instructing and focusing the Client
  • Begins to navigate difficult situations independently; knows when to say “no” and offers alternative solutions
  • Understands key takeaways from market research and can effectively convert scientific and market research information to marketing ideas
  • Establishes proper Client expectations of Agency deliverables and ensure day-to-day Client expectations are met 

People Management

  • Serves as a role model for all direct reports
  • Provides regular coaching and feedback to direct reports; completes Career Navigator for formal annual goals/reviews
  • Aware of the appropriate resourcing of the multi-disciplinary team assigned to the business
  • Prioritizes and delegates appropriately
  • Identifies areas to develop direct reports and advance them to the next level 

Business Development

  • Recognizes organic growth opportunities and discusses with supervisor
  • May support new business efforts

  • Familiarity Canadian Code of Advertising and ASC submission process
  • Bachelordegree; 5 to 10 years marketing experience (i.e. advertising agencies, brand consultancies, digital firms, client-side etc.)
  • Direct-to-Consumer marketing experience (OTC/Consumer Healthcare products, unbranded DTC for Rx products)
  • Experience with consumer testing/research
  • Experience in the pharmacy channel from a consumer perspective (e.g. shopper marketing, product promotion, retention programs, etc.)
  • Strategically and creatively minded (has a passion for creative excellence)
  • Exhibits thinking that shows he/she can synthesize across functions
  • Client service focused
  • Proven ability to think critically and across functions
  • Resourceful and proactive approach
  • Good people management skills
  • Must be subjective, resourceful and quick-thinking
  • Demonstrates effective communication and creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Digital background preferred
  • Experience developing tactical plans and initiatives
  • Excellent abilities in writing, critical/analytical thinking, presentation skills

Demonstrate proficiency with PC-based applications (MS Office) and Client-Agency systems (e.g. ZINC)
