The Business

Our Health and Benefits (H&B) business helps large and mid-size clients control health and benefits plan costs, improve health outcomes and promote employee engagement through broad-based, state-of-the-art interventions. The Absence and Disability Management (ADM) group within H&B focuses on the development and management of highly customized time-off and absence/disability management programs for client groups, as well as the design and implementation of a variety of wellness and health management strategies. The ADM group also collaborates with other H&B practices to provide integrated benefits strategies and solutions for clients.  

The Role

As an Absence and Disability Management (ADM) Consultant you will consult on a wide variety of complex projects including: Sick Pay, Salary Continuance, Statutory Disability, Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, Family and Medical Leave (FML), Vacation and Paid Time-off (PTO), Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance.  You will serve as the project manager and day to day communication liaison with our clients, create client deliverables, contribute to client management and new business activities, and participate in the creation of new intellectual capital.

Performance Objectives:

Clients

  • Deliver superior, consistent client management and deliverables in support of a Senior Consultant for assigned clients:
    • Draft statements of work, project plans and budgets involving multiple workflow streams and client teams
    • Oversee the day to day project leaders, ensuring the progress of the teams against established objectives, budgets, timelines, deliverables and quality standards
    • Serve as primary, daily contact to clients on delivery of services
    • Manage client expectations and raise appropriate issues to Senior Consultants and  Account Directors
  • Interface with colleagues from other practices and regions on assignments that reflect the client’s broader business issues
  • Develop a trusted advisor relationship with client contacts through effective communication and efficient, quality execution of projects

Excellence

  • Provide valued-added consulting expertise on large, sophisticated ADM projects including:
    • Plan design/strategy
    • Modeling, cost analyses, funding and employee contribution strategies
    • Vendor analysis, selection, negotiation and procurement
    • Ongoing plan management including evaluation of program performance and trend, and vendor audits, management and optimization
    • Benchmarking studies and analyses
    • Plan compliance and audits
  • Contribute to special projects
  • Contribute to the development of new tools and approaches

Financial

  • Meet new business revenue and billable hour goals established with your manager
  • Support the generation of new business by enhancing relationships with current clients and recommending new projects and solutions
  • Participate in prospecting opportunities with new clients as part of a broader team
  • Directly contribute to clients’ success through applying your technical expertise

People

  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels
  • Serve as mentor to ADM Analysts and Senior Analysts

Job Requirements

The Requirements

  • 7+ years experience and success in the design/management of group disability and absence management plans gained in a consulting, brokerage or carrier environment
  • Strong financial skills; prior experience in group health and welfare product pricing, underwriting or valuation work preferred
  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget
  • Demonstrated success in managing client issues and relationships;  some experience in growing relationships with current clients
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Polished and well developed oral and written communication skills
  • Self-starter attitude and ability to work with ambiguity
  • Flexibility and proven ability to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Strong analytical and creative skills
  • Experience training/mentoring junior staff
  • The ability to see the 'big picture,' leveraging the resources of related practices to address the clients' business challenges
  • Working knowledge of Excel, MS Project, MS Word
  • Availability to travel on an as needed basis
  • Bachelors degreerequired
  • Pursuit of CEBS designation, or group health and welfare actuarial or underwriting training
