Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, the Advisory Operations Development Manager role is reserved for leaders who have demonstrated skills in leading and managing associates. The Manager will be responsible for ongoing associate development through regular interaction and feedback.  The Manager is required to learn many of the technical aspects of Advisory Operations which include, but are not limited to, understanding the databases and files related to Advisory Operations so that the internal processes can be evaluated and enhanced for operational efficiency.  The Manager is responsible for understanding and approving project requests for system (IT) enhancements and new functionality.  

The Manager will serve as an internal consultant to Advisory Operations management and will interact heavily with other areas at Stifel. The Manager will also collaborate with Advisory Compliance and Advisory Marketing/Product to ensure all functions and processes meet regulatory requirements.  The Manager is required to know or learn the high level aspects of all functions within the area so that he/she may appropriately lead others within the department and Stifel with respect to all technical enhancements related to the processes in Advisory Operations. 

The Manager is responsible for handling complicated subject matter and group dynamics. This includes the day-to-day management of workloads, associate development, associate reviews, and personnel issues including additions to staff and performance management when necessary.

 

 MAJOR DUTIES

  • Provides overall leadership and management to the Advisory Development group
  • Provides ongoing associate development through regular interaction and feedback
  • Functions as a professional mentor for others within the department
  • Identifies and appropriately diagnoses both routine and disciplinary personnel issues at their onset and escalates to leadership when appropriate
  • Responsible for decisions pertaining to workloads, staffing needs, associate reviews and department policies and procedures
  • ensuring timely and accurate processing of data requests
  • Responsible for ensuring prompt and thorough responses to enhancement requests 
  • proactively working with other areas within Advisory Operations in an effort to streamline processes
  • Responsible for the administration of the Man_Admin table
  • Responsible for the administration of all advisory mailings (i.e. annual ADV mailings)
  • moving projects along and documenting the status
  • Maintains a full understanding of the work being completed by associates and the status of the various projects
  • Collaborates with the leadership group in Advisory Operations with respect to overall department strategy and decision making
  • Collaborates with the I.T., and/or outside vendors on technology enhancements that streamline processing and improve overall operational efficiency
  • Collaborates with Advisory Marketing/Product and Advisory Compliance with respect to processes, products, and procedures
  • Responsible for additional projects, new products and new developments as assigned

  • The ability to interpret and apply industry rules and regulations
  • Computer, Programs and Design - Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite with strong technical skills using Excel, Access, SQL, etc.
  • Strong mathematical and accounting skills.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Associate Degree or equivalent financial industry experience
  • 5+ year’s supervisory/management, technical, and financial industry experience.
  • Series 7 is required upon hire.   The ability to obtain Series 66 (or 63/65) within one year of hire is also required.

  DESIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a strong technical background
  • 6-10 years’ managing large groups and projects
  • Series 66 (or 63/65), 24
