What Part Will You Play?

Supports data center availability and reliability requirements, identifies and eliminates sources of risk to increase availability of critical IT systems. Identify interdependencies between facility and IT infrastructures and collaborate with facility management to mitigate gaps in system redundancy and ensure efficient power and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Maintains an in-depth knowledge of data center environmental and infrastructure best practices. Creates and maintains appropriate infrastructure and connectivity documentation within applications such as MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Computer-aided Design (CAD) applications and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software such as iTRACS.

Designs and documents complex infrastructure connectivity plans for multiple data centers using dark fiber, connectivity rooms, and mainframe and/or distributed technology servers to various client and/or company owned systems, while accounting for design aspects such as efficient cabling routes, power and/or HVAC availability/additional requirements. Determines the appropriate equipment specifications based on infrastructure requirements and evaluates potential/existing equipment specifications meet the requirements and ensure continued system availability and reliability. Reviews designs and documentation for basic to complex infrastructure connectivity plans created by less experienced team members and provide guidance as necessary. Provides team members with guidance regarding the application of industry best practices when developing infrastructure connectivity designs.

Completes the installation of infrastructure equipment, such as racks, cabinets, networking equipment, and completes cabling runs to include terminating cabling to the various types of system components. Provides guidance and advice to less experienced team members during installations. Documents and reviews documentations of all infrastructure connections points and completes/maintains and reviews virtualization maps of data and power connections within DCIM software. Leads the coordination of the maintenance and repair of infrastructure components with vendors and internal maintenance/facility teams to ensure maximum system availability.  

Functions as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to make recommendations during the collaboration with the maintenance and facility teams regarding the design requirements and proper utilization of power and HVAC to ensure the data centers are "green" operations.

Proposes, documents and reviews internal policies and/or procedures of proper infrastructure, end-to-end, connectivity. Reviews industry materials and periodicals to stay abreast of changes in infrastructuretechnology and best practices. Identifies potential impacts of industry changes and recommends a course of action to mitigate risk to existing infrastructure or future projects. Reviews to ensure the relevance of infrastructure and connectivity data in DCIM software and provides recommendations to less experienced team members for the maintenance of such data.

What Are We Looking For in This Role?

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Relevant Experience or Degree in: Major in Computer Science, Electric Engineer or Mechanical Engineering strongly preferred, other majors considered. Willing to accept additional experience in lieu of a degree.
