We are recruiting for the following:

Principal Scientist Technical Manager - New Applications


  1. PhD in polymer science, chemistry or material science and engineering
  2. 8years post doc technical experience

The Principal Scientist/Technical Manager- New Applications participates in Diamond Projects focused on delivering growth in new market areas for the CAS NAFTA business with responsibility for driving the technology development required to make these projects successful.

This role will also contribute to all activities within the overall project, including development of the business plan and meeting with customers and other members of the value chain to identify their unmet needs, issues and opportunities.

Major Activities:

•Drives the development of innovative technical solutions in new applications.

•Designs experiments to solve unique but often ill-defined problems. This work can result in novel resolution of problems that may be paten. Additionally, collects competitive material samples and/or testing data to benchmark materials and summarizes findings in reports.

•Works with the Legal Department and IP Management in understanding prior art and in the preparation of patents to protect technology and in formulating IP strategy.

•Stays current with marketplace issues such as new regulations, new chemicalproducts and scouts for new end uses for our products.

•Supervises the work of one or more junior chemists/bench technicians. Maintains a good working relationship with customers, vendors and Open Innovation service providers in the industry.

•Supports the development and mentoring of junior chemists in the laboratory through the use of informal conversations and by developing and presenting technical topics at internal meetings.

•Develops methods and standards for others to follow. Leads ideation and problem solving activities to overcome technical challenges, including activities like brainstorming that are needed to resolve these problems.

Basic Qualifications:

•Ph.D. degree in polymer science, chemistry, or materials science and at least eight years post degree of technical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

•In depth knowledge and experience in polyurethane chemistry and applications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

•In depth knowledge of polymer science and chemistry

•Strong intellectual capacity to come up with new ideas and develop innovative solutions

•Grit in face of technical challenges and setbacks

•Effective communicator both internally and externally

•Interpersonal skills to work effectively in teams and diverse groups

•Ability to travel domestically and internationally
