Bolton & Menk is growing and we are looking for an Aviation Engineer Project Manager to serve our Iowa clients. This position can be located Des Moines, Ames or Cedar Rapids.

In this newly created position, the project engineer/manager will work with aviation engineers and planners in the firm. This position will be responsible for leading and managing the design and construction management for airport projects including extension and reconstruction of runways, taxiways and aprons; fuel systems; vertical infrastructure including hangars and AD buildings; NAVAIDS; etc. Other duties include management of budget and schedule for assigned airport projects in the as well as assist with marketing of future clients.

The selected candidate will serve as a client contact to airport boards at airport clients as assigned. This person will report to the Aviation Group Manager and work with the Aviation Business Development Manager to develop and implement a marketing plan. The ideal candidate will possess a high capacity for self-motivation and be able to manage and coordinate with staff and subconsultants from other offices. Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the work of other engineers and technicians; plans and organizes airport project assignments
  • Serve as a client contact to airport boards and airport clients as assigned
  • Review and/or prepare preliminary reports and feasibility studies
  • Develop, coordinate and review the final design and preparation of plans and specifications
  • Provides technical advice regarding design, construction or modification and repairs to clients, contractors and other staff members
  • Responsible for the management planning, scheduling and performance of multiple engineering projects and personnel, both design and construction
  • Read and interpret engineering plans, specifications and reports
  • Perform effective technical writing and correspondence
  • Perform business development activities (client needs, research, proposals, etc.)
  • Coordinate construction administration and monitor documentation requirements with field staff
  • Apply broad understanding of civil engineering and other fields to reach innovative and interdependent solutions
  • Assists with the training and development of professional and technical staff
  • Develops relationships with regulatory agencies
  • Travel periodically to work sites and other project related locations

Education and Experience:

  • The selected candidate will have a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Six (6) years of progressive airport engineeringexperience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of IA. (or can become licensed within 6 months)
