Position Description 

Position Purpose

  • Manage efficient operations and all aspects of safety, quality, productivity, logistics, procurement, continuous improvement, order & discipline in the Depot. Accountable for all operating expenses, Capital expenditure and profitability of the Depot. Collaborate with Sales on new business opportunities and support growth initiatives.

  • Full P&L responsibility.

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Safety: Implement & manage a Zero Harm environment, direct workplace compliance with all corporate & government safety  and  environmental policies

  • Quality: Manage the application of the quality criteria, balancing external & internal customer needs for form, fit, and function with operational capabilities & costs

  • Productivity: Direct the application of production standards in balance with the priorities of Safety (Zero Harm), Quality and Continuous Improvement.

  • Inventory: Manage inventory levels and consumption to support pallets manufacturing and recycling, inventory accuracy, valuation and recycling yield.

  • Customer Service: Meet all customer requirement (Both inbound and outbound) in terms of delivery to customer lead-time minimizing handling and transportation costs.

  • Logistics: Manage all inbound and outbound transportation of the depot optimizing logistics costs.

  • Procurement: Ensure all procurement are executed in the most cost effective manner and are done so according to existing policies and procedures.

  • Visibility: Drive proper visibility of depot performance by developing and maintaining multi-level metrics. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement through process changes, leveraging proper technology without compromising Safety & Quality

  • People & Team: Drive the performance discussions and individual development plans with direct reports. Identify, enable and establish a culture to retain top talent.

  • Order & Discipline: Manage the unionized workforce in compliance with the law and the CBA.. Active participant in negotiations with union, grievances and collective bargaining.

Depot operational decisions, Expense and hiring authorization as per company Policy.

Essential Qualifications:

  • College Level diploma or equivalent management-level work experience desirable

  • 5 -10 years management experience in a unionized manufacturing environment, Strong Financial Acumen, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Industrial Engineer or equivalent management-level work experience


  • 5-10 years’ experience managing / supervising within a  unionized warehouse production environment

  • Experience managing a formal Safety Program, preferably within a manufacturing or warehouse/depot environment

  • Experience leading/managing/participating in a Continuous Improvement Program

  • Strong union experience managing a workforce of up to 100 workers over multiple shifts.

  • Demonstrated experience blending people into teams

  • Change management experience.
