Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking applicants for the position of Program Director, Cybersecurity Engineering program (CYSE). Over the next several years, the School expects to invest significant resources to build a world-class teaching infrastructure to support the program as well as to capitalize on corporate and government engagement with the program. The candidate will take the leading role in building, integrating, and growing the program to meet the ever-increasing demand for highly skilled, technically-adroit engineers to meet the cybersecurity threats facing organizations and individuals. The candidate will take an active role in ongoing program strategy and development, curriculum and course development, faculty hiring, interdisciplinary outreach, and external engagement with corporate and government stakeholders in the St. Louis region and beyond.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and shape the ongoing strategic direction of the CYSE program in concert with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Chair, faculty, staff and key SEAS stakeholders.
  • Manage the program to drive performance in terms of student enrollments, cost parameters, and budget goals.
  • Provide curriculum oversight, assessment, evaluation, and improvement. Establish and propose changes/deletions/additions to a program curriculum committee.
  • Oversee development of new academic offerings such as programs, certificates, short courses, and credentials.
  • Ensure the program curriculum, content, and/or delivery methods incorporate emerging practice, changes in the discipline, and data on instructional effectiveness.
  • Assess, advocate for, and facilitate the implementation of technical capabilities, hardware, and software to support high quality, practical learning for CYSE students, including laboratory infrastructure.
  • Work with Department and SEAS research groups, other schools within the University, like-minded higher education organizations, and industry and government organizations to integrate relevant streams of cybersecurity research and expertise into the CYSE program.
  • Explore and develop collaboration with industry, government, and professional organizations with a stake in cybersecurity education and research for student projects, research, internships, recruiting, and other similar opportunities.
  • Represent the program and the school at University and external meetings as appropriate.
  • Along with teaching responsibilities, the Director will hold a position on the Department’s faculty commensurate with their experience, i.e. Senior Lecturer, Teaching Professor, Professor.
  • Engage professional experts and alumni to recruit new students and serve as guest lecturers and create networking opportunities.
  • When available, participate in promotional events to market the program to prospective students, including conferences, informational events, college days, one-on-ones, and other similar opportunities.
  • Be a resource to students to discuss questions and make recommendations on their program and course progress and performance. 



Required Qualifications

  • Earned Doctorate in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. (NOTE: A high-quality Masters degree in these fields may be considered if professional experience and track record shows clear expertise and excellence that support the Director’s required duties).
  • Proven track record of performance in industry or government in the cybersecurity field.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to achieve strategic and/or entrepreneurial outcomes in a diverse organizational environment.
  • Strong leadership skills to include capacity to build cooperative relationships, positively influence the performance of interdisciplinary work teams, and produce results.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies and staff.
  • Established excellence in written and oral communication.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience in a university or 4 year college. 
  • Experience with professional education programs.
  • Experience with curriculum development and outcomes assessment.
  • Experience with instructional innovation and online education.



Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is commensurate with experience.
