How you’ll spend your days:

The Import & Customs Manager develops and manages the standard processes and data governance policies within the Import department.

The Import & Customs Manager manages and develops a large team of Senior Analysts, Analysts, and Assistants.

In addition the role will supervise multiple projects along with ongoing tasks of the department.

The manager must be aware of workload and ensure the team is adequately staffed. In addition, the manager must have a solid understanding of import/export processes and customs regulations as well as understanding the impact of these in the company’s strategy.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure the team is effectively meeting all deadlines and internal requirements
  • Manage execution of meetings and trainings including preparation and documentation
  • Plan and manage multiple complex projects in deadline-driven environment
  • Understand the objective and impact of projects on the business and drive solutions to issues that impact the department
  • Solid understanding of when to escalate issues to leadership proactively in a timely manner
  • Planning research, analysis, testing and liaising with internal and external teams to source relevant data
  • Develop, implement, and optimize departmental strategy, processes, systems, policies, and standards
  • Manage development of manuals, handbooks, reports, presentations, and project plans
  • Ability to manage changing workloads and conflicting priorities
  • Review data and results as a part of the 4-Eye release principle
  • Oversee classification and identification of import requirements in order to ensure the quality
  • Ensure team is adhering to all internal policies & procedures, and continuously meeting standards for KPIs and quality
  • Collaborate with other departments to establish cross departmental processes
  • Execute succession plan to ensure seamless business operations
  • Resource management including hiring and termination
  • Encourage team members growth including performance improvement plans
  • Facilitate communication of larger company goals/projects among team members
  • Manage the liaison between regulatory bodies, trade partners and relevant internal departments; by providing them with best-in-class customs information and advisory services
  • Ensure all import procedures are in compliance with import/customs regulations
  • Undertake continuous analysis of the regulatory environment, with particular regard to trade tariffs/duties and trade restrictions/requirements, and communicating them in a clear and concise way to other departments within the company
  • Guide the day-to-day activities of the Customs/Import team, in the context of overall long-term planning
  • Engage and encourage the team, providing direction and resources – coaching them to success, while transmitting to them the company’s overall values, vision, and direction
  • Achieve all internal objectives and team KPIs
  • Complete projects so subsequent processes can follow
  • Maintain consistent standard of quality of data maintained in systems understanding the importance for subsequent departments to operate successfully
  • Implement solutions and continual improvement for working efficiently
  • Develop and motivate team members
  • Ensure successful and efficient workflow, and execution of tasks
  • Ensure procedures, processes, and training materials are accurate and up to date
  • Train or guide the work of other team members on occasion
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in related field required
  • In lieu of degree, a total number of 5-7 years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above
  • Solid understanding of the import/export processes and relevant legal requirements
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • High levels of integrity and discretion
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills
  • Ability to evaluate processes for optimization purposes
