The Role

 

Our Human Resources Department is looking for a Human Resources Consultant to join their team on a 1 year contract.  Reportingto a Senior Human Resources Consultant, the Human Resources Consultant (HRC) is a generalist that focuses on partnering with people leaders and employees in the areas of employee relations and retention, talent acquisition, training & development, performance management, employee engagement and compensation & benefits.  The incumbent will also participate within broader HR initiatives and projects to aid in the achievement of our strategic initiatives.

 

As a valued member of the HR team your core responsibilities will include:

 

Business partnership excellence

  • Partner with business groups in implementing human resource strategies aligning with the divisional vision
  • Attend regular business update meetings (monthly team meetings, division town halls, etc.)
  • Develop a solid understanding of our products and services along with the organizational and divisional strategic objectives
  • Assist and coach leadership to resolve performance and employment issues; escalate problems and seeks counsel from Snr HR Consultant as required
  • Conduct exit interviews, provide confidential feedback to leaders and partner to develop strategies to minimize future turnover
  • Act as an employee engagement champion to the business by working with leaders to understand strengths & opportunities in their areas and provide guidance on how to best address with the goal of increasing engagement in the divisions with which you partner
  • Work with business groups on any change management related initiatives
  • Coach leaders and employees on ‘Leading Performance’ (Mackenzie’s approach to performance management )
  • Partner with leaders and Snr Human Resources Consultants to provide input and guidance on succession planning by understanding the strengths and areas of development of talent within your respective client groups

 

Employee Relations

  • Effectively engage employees and communicate with all levels of the organization providing advice, assistance and follow up on issues as they arise
  • Conduct confidential workplace investigations as required for matters that arise due to respect in the workplace policy violations
  • Ensure fair and consistent treatment to all employees and compliance with all provincial laws
  • Act as an advisor to leaders on issues relating to policy interpretation and employee relations

 

Talent Acquisition

  • Lead talent acquisition initiatives independently for assigned business groups or partner with our internal Talent Acquisition Consultant for assistance depending upon workload.  Focus on decreasing time to hire and increasing quality of hire while providing excellent client service to both our internal (hiring managers, internal candidates) and external clients (candidates).
  • Partner  with leaders on  workforce planning and talent acquisition initiatives

 

Training & Facilitation

  • Facilitate training either informally or in a classroom setting on topics such as; Performance Management, Feedback, Employment Law, Employee Engagement, Respect in the Workplace, Interviewing Skills, New Leader Integration
  • Assist employees/leaders with their training plans/direct them to the resources/market internal training offered.

 

Total Compensation

  • Take part in the Job Evaluation process
  • Develop a solid understanding of the compensation programs/plans for related business groups in order assist and guide both leaders and employees on comp related questions or initiatives.

 

Involved in otherHR related projects as required

 

The following qualifications are required of the successful candidate:

 

  • minimum of 5 years human resources generalist experience working in a corporate human resources department
  • Extensive knowledge of all human resources functions and applicable legislation
  • Several years of full cycle recruiting 
  • Strong knowledge in managing organizational change
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Well developed interviewing, training, coaching and counselling skills
  • Good understanding of Performance Management , Employee Relations and Employee Engagement methodologies (Gallup would be an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills required to resolve complex and sensitive staff issues at all levels within the organization
  • Ability to work independently while also being able to collaborate  across various divisions and at all levels within the organization
  • Successful completion of Human Resources Certificate, degree, diploma or equivalent education required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and HRIS
  • Certified Human Resource Professional Designation an asset
  • Experience in the financial industry is an asset
  • Bilingualism is an asset
