Position Summary

The IT Category Manager responsibility is to build, maintain and enhance relationships with strategic (high-value and high-dependency) IT vendors and internal stakeholders (such as IT leadership and end users).

The IT Category Manager manages multiple IT categories and ensures IT and business requirements align to specifications and priorities. Responsible for IT strategic sourcing, including complex vendor negotiations.

Works closely with IT management and the office of the CIO, enterprise and solution architects, data center and application managers, program and project managers, and strategy and planning organizations. A primary contributor to IT sourcing and procurement decisions.

Additionally, this role has primary responsibility for the management of the IT Strategic Partner Program. This includes education and compliance, strategy, assessment, program administration and two strategic partner events annual for IT vendors and internal stakeholders


  • Develops, formalizes and directs relationships with multiple strategic IT vendors

  • Identifies, facilitates and maintains appropriate relationships with IT stakeholders, executive leadership and vendors to drive proper alignment on business and operational goals in contracts

  • Annually, responsible for >$30M spend through the IT budget, strategic and KTLO projects

  • Understands the key components of complex supplier contracts (liabilities, indemnities, disentanglement, termination,establishment of KPI's/SLA's), and is able to negotiate toward the best commercial outcome

  • Ensures that contractual requirements are well-communicated and well-understood, and clearly defines expectations from the business

  • Measures performance of the overall relationship between internal customers and strategic vendors

  • Manages escalation and arbitration of relationship and operational issues if other avenues fail

  • Identifies opportunities for efficiency gains, creative strategies, and hard cost savings with suppliers; presenting results to the IT and the business, including senior management. Executes on results

  • Identifies, researches and evaluates vendors that meet Bridgestone standards of price, quality, timing, service and reliability of supply. Ensure supplier qualification efforts include diversity initiatives where possible

  • Develops category strategies and vendor negotiation plans with IT and the business

  • Execute RFI, RFQ, and RFP processes, facilitating the team mate engagement, conducting pricing analysis and evaluation of quotations and proposals, negotiating contract terms and pricing

Category Specfic knowledge ( preferred)

  • IT professional services provider program management and Vendor Management System (VMS) experience for Managed Service Providers (MSP) to include IT Application Management Services (AMS), outsourcing services, staff augmentation, IT contingent labor, and IT consulting

  • Resource management and forecasting principles

  • IT Outsourcing principles and programs for Offshore Captives, Offshore, Nearshore, and Onshore outsourcing with global service providers with multiple Centers of Excellence (COE’s)

  • Advanced IT professional services negotiation knowledge:Professional services provider pricing programs, global and special bid pricing, and regional markets (North and South America, India)

  • Professional services provider cost driver and sales incentive structures

  • Benchmarking

Foundational Job- Know How

  • Advanced Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) principles

  • Strategy development and implementation of category plans, supplier segmentation, spend analysis, forecasting and cost saving models

  • Advanced sourcing fundamentals includingRFI/RFQ/RFP, bid analysis, supplier selection and award

  • Complex IT Negotiation strategies

  • Contract development, management and administration

  • Contract administration and compliance monitoring

  • Understanding of project management principles

  • Proficient in "Problem Solving Decision Making"


  • Ability to understand complex IT issues and initiatives, and sustain communication on these topics with business and technology-savvy individuals.

  • Ability to manage multiple vendors and sourcing projects concurrently and adapt priorities quickly

  • Ability to create and manage incentives that drive vendor behaviors

  • Effective and advanced communication skills up to executive levels of management;

  • Ability to clearly communicate scope, expectations, plans, and hold teammates accountable for sourcing project commitments

  • Effectively presents solutions in ambiguous or difficult situations while maintaining positive relationships.

  • Advanced planning, complex problem solving and analytical capability; able to identify key issues and effectively coordinate efforts to achieve resolution

  • Leadership and teamwork; Ability to work across organizational boundaries, with the goal of understanding political drivers and influencers

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degreerequired

  • 5 years managing complex IT contracts and relationships, technology sourcing, technology procurement or technology vendor management

  • Preferred CPSM, C.P.M., CTPE, CTPS or similar certification

  • Preferred manufacturing, retail or automotive services industry knowledge

This role is responsible for IT spend under management, vendor management and strategic sourcing in assigned categories for the following Bridgestone entities: Bridgestone Americas Service Center, Bridgestone Retail Operations, CFNA, Firestone Building Products, Firestone Industrial Products, Firestone Fibers and Textiles, TWW, GCR, Hose Power, Tire Operations, Bridgestone Latin America and others as requested.
