This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Components Engineer - Fuel Systems. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Acts as technical liaison between the Cummins field service organization and the Engineering, Quality, & Manufacturing organizations to identify, define, and prioritize most complex product issues and to implement solutions. Coaches and mentors less experienced service engineers.
Identify most complex service issues, initiate problem solving, document cost and customer impact information to establish priority for corrective action.
Lead or manage failure analyses with Field Service, Warranty, and Engineering to communicate and define issues.
Partners with distributors, dealers and customers to support the investigation of most complex escalated product issues, discuss solutions, and conduct training because of complexity, longevity and criticality.
Support product development teams and problem solving teams via the installation of field test engines or components and the monitoring and reporting of reliability data.
Lead reviews to ensure the serviceability of new components and products including the monitoring of new product performance.
Lead initial publication and subsequent revision of service literature.
Ensures new information regarding technical solutions and service procedures is communicated to the service organization.
Works with director to consider improvements and organizational development.
Coaches and mentors or project manages less experienced Service Engineers.
Communication - Written And Verbal - Significant experience in written and verbal communication and should be capable of communicating effectively to all levels within and outside the company.
Component Failure Analysis - Demonstrated capability to analyze engine and/or power generation equipment failures at the component level and to collect the relevant data to develop and support the analysis and conclusions. Demonstrated knowledge by conducting failure analysis on multiple systems and equipment.
Data Gathering And Analysis - Able to create and troubleshoot measurement systems using standard components and existing procedures. Applies tools to data sets without pre-determined solutions.
Diagnostics - Performs diagnostic development work at an advanced level. Proficient in the application of diagnostics in a wide range of work situations. Able to lead the application of diagnostics. Able to train and coach others in the development of diagnostics skills/knowledge.
Focus On Customer Needs - Able to leverage network of customer contacts to attain customer specific information that will provide useful in making informed business decisions and increase understanding of customer needs.
Hazard Analysis - Proficient in the application of hazard analysis in a wide range of work situations. Trains and coaches others in the development of this hazard analysis knowledge.
Rapid Problem Solving - Consistent demonstrated use of the Rapid Problem solving process and databases. Can coach/train others on process and database. Can identify improvements to the problem solving processes and tools.
Warranty/Policy Support - Has working knowledge of the warranty, extended coverage, and policy programs. Is able to evaluate a policy request and determine whether it qualifies or not. Has the capability to determine root cause of failure and assign accountability. Is able to communicate the decision in a diplomatic manner. Coaches/trains employees.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university or equivalent degree in Engineering or related technical field required.
Responsible for leading Global short-term, extremely high-paced projects while following set team processes in order to mitigate component product warranty costs. This position will require the person to lead projects through Step 3 with little guidance from management by leveraging support from service, controls, software, product engineering and quality.
Use effective problem solving skills and 6Sigma tools to ensure the timely identification/implementation of Step 3 activities.
Apply a forensic engineering approach to issue by studying the parts, application, controls, and real situation.
Travel off-site to customer locations, plants or other remote areas in order to study a specific failure modes or conduct testing.
